Lot 1077

1973 Triumph Trident T150V, 750 cc. Registration number JKB 129L. Frame number T150V XH01131. Engine number XH01131. Launched in 1969, the BSA-Triumph 750cc triples were based on the existing Triumph 500cc twin-cylinder engine, being in essence a 'Tiger-and-a-half'. Differences between the Triumph Trident and BSA Rocket 3 were more than just cosmetic: the two models used different frames and in BSA guise the motor featured an inclined cylinder block. Only the Trident survived the group's collapse in 1972, continuing as the five-speed T150V and later the T160 (using the inclined engine). Although ultimately upstaged in the showroom by Japanese rivals, the Triumph and BSA 750 triples did more than enough on the racetrack to ensure their place in motorcycling history. The team narrowly missed victory at the 1970 Daytona 200, its first major event, when Gene Romero finished second on a Triumph. Dick Mann's BSA won at Daytona in 1971 and John Cooper, also BSA-mounted, at Mallory Park's Race of the Year, vanquishing the hitherto unbeatable combination of Giacomo Agostini and MV. Percy Tait and Ray Pickrell had won the 24-hour Bol d'Or endurance race the preceding week on another Triple, and Cooper wrapped up a memorable international season with victory in the 250-mile race at Ontario in October. As a production racer the Triple was equally dominant, as the number of important production race victories achieved (most notably by the works Triumph 'Slippery Sam') is eloquent testimony. JKB was exported to the USA and returned June 1991. It would appear to be in very good original condition, with matching numbers and the mileage of some 12,000 could well be original given its condition and patina. Sold with the V5C, gentle recommissioning should see this iconic bike on the road very quickly as it was last on the road in 2018.

DAVID BOWIE LOST ZION TAPE - ALTERNATE ALADDIN SANE ALBUM. A tantalising and fascinating prospect for any discerning Bowie collector here with an almost completely different version of the classic 1973 album. Each track on this tape has notable differences to the released album, ranging from completely different, likely unheard takes to alternate vocals, instrumental compositions and mixes. Since the recording of Aladdin Sane in 1973 fans have wondered about the existence of a rumoured 'lost track' - thought to be titled 'Zion'. Was it cut and then binned in favour of 'Lady Grinning Soul'? Was it actually titled 'A Lad In Vein', a version which has appeared on bootlegs? The answer is found here on this boxed reel of Emitape, containing mastered mixes of the 8 tracks that comprise Aladdin Sane, recorded at Trident Studios. The handwritten notes on the original Trident Studios label reveal early hesitancy about the composition of the title 'Aladdin Sane', with amendments (in a different pen) breaking up the two words (to form A Ladd Insane) and also show the last track, which is marked clearly as 'Zion'. Listening to the the tape reveals the running order follows as standard, with the last track playing (as true to the released version) 'Lady Grinning Soul'. ** Please note this item is sold as an artefact only and no copyright (s) are included in this sale.

Lot 414

DAVID BOWIE ZIGGY STARDUST TAPE REEL ALTERNATE VERSIONS. A boxed reel of 7" Scotch tape, with handwritten notes on Trident Studios label indicating that the contents include six tracks from the Ziggy Stardust recording sessions of 3rd December 1971. Of the six tracks on this tape, three of the six contain differences to the released version. Differences include: on Hang on to Yourself, a different take with alternate vocals, effects (including echo), instrumentation. On Ziggy/Lady Stardust - there are some subtle differences to mix and vocals. The tracks listed (and their corresponding track length as per the digitised version) are: Hang on to Yourself (2.37), Ziggy Stardust (3.22), Velvet Goldmine (3.18), Holy, Holy (2.28), Soul Love (3.52), Lady Stardust (3.27). One handwritten note to label reads 'Wrong Line Up for Ziggy Stardust', another symbol indicates that Ziggy Stardust and Hang On.. should be swapped in the tracklisting. The winning bidder will receive a digitised copy of the recording. Many of the tracks are 'rougher' mixes, with differences notable between this and the released version. The annotations on the box label are in the hand of producer Ken Scott. ** Please note this item is sold as an artefact only and no copyright (s) are included in this sale.
