A 20th Century model of the Swedish warship "Wasa", built by Derek Bayliss, circa 1983, with inscription. (The Wasa, together with four other ships, formed the backbone of the Swedish Navy in the early 1600's. It was armed with powerful guns and built with a high stern which would act as a firing platform for some 300 soldiers. It was richly decorated with sculptures intended to glorify the wisdom and prowess of the monarch. However, in 1628 it set sail on its maiden voyage. The gun ports were open and the guns were about to fire a salute as the ship left Stockholm, when a gust of wind forced the ship on to its port side, pushing the gun ports under water, and causing it to sink in front of a crowd of hundreds if not thousands)
