Sir Charles Walter D'Oyly (British-Indian 1822-1900), Lake Damoda Kund, India, watercolour, signed bottom left, measurements 29 x 44 cm (SH) Charles D'Oyly was a British public official and painter from Dhaka. He served the Bengal Civil Service for almost 40 years before relocating to Italy on health reasons before his death. He was also a talented artist and published many books and engravings focusing upon Indian scenes and subjects. The Damoda Kund lake is an important sacred lake in Hindu belief, located at the Girnar Hills. The water is able to disolve bone and many Hindus come here to immerse bones and ashes of loved ones after their cremation.

Wilfred Owen (British 1893-1918), Watercolour of Ireland's Mansion, Shrewsbury, signed bottom right, mounted and framed, inscribed 'Wilfred Owen War Poet' and further indistinct inscription verso. Measurements 36 x 25.5 cm (SH), framed measurements 50.5 x 41.5 cm. Wilfred Owen was a British poet and soldier from Oswestry, Shropshire. He is famous for his haunting war poetry which focused upon the horrors of the trenches and conditions during World War One which were in stark contrast to the contemporary public perception of the war effort. Owen was killed in action during the crossing of the Sambre-Oise Canal, just one week before the signing of the Armistace. Ireland's Mansion is a 16th Century timber building in Shrewbury built by Robert Ireland, a local mercer. It consists of three houses with a central bloxk and two tenements either side.
