Princess Royal) light contact marks, generally very fine (5) £300-£400 --- William Thomas Hodder was born at Lyme Regis, Dorset, on 2 February 1882 and joined the Royal Navy as a Boy Second Class on 28 July 1898. He served in H.M.S. Gibraltar from 5 March 1901, and was advanced Able Seaman on 19 September 1901. Advanced Ship’s Corporal First Class on 4 January 1914, he was awarded his Long Service and Good Conduct Medal on 23 February 1915, and was shore invalided on 21 September 1916. He served in H.M.S. Porpoise from 12 April 1903 to 11 February 1904, and then saw further service during the Great War, being awarded his Long Service and Good Conduct Medal on 7 December 1916. He was advanced Ship’s Steward Petty Officer on 16 November 1922, and was finally shore pensioned on 31 October 1923.
