A bronze medal presented to John Downie of Manchester United in 1952, the reverse inscribed GAZET VAN ANTWERPEN, DANKT U, IN HERINNERING, AAN DE ONTMOETING, AUSTRIA WIEN F.K., MANCHESTER UNITED F.C.; sold with a signed and hand written letter of authenticity from John Downie (2) The Austria Wien v Manchester United freindly match was played in Antwerp on 11th November 1952. United won 1-0 through a goal by Pearson. United were reigning champions of England and Wien were champions of Austria. John Downie was a Scottish player born at Lanark 19th July 1925. He began his senior career at Bradford Park Avenue before signing for Manchester United in 1949, as a direct replacement for Johnny Morris, for a then record club fee of £18,000.The inside forward made a total of 116 League & Cup appearances for United before transferring to Luton Town for £10,000 in 1953. Johnny Downie then had spells at several League & non-League clubs before retiring in 1962. Post-career he worked as a newsagent in Bradford before moving to Tynemouth where he followed local football with a keen interest and was a regular at North Shields and Whitley Bay. He died in Tynemouth 19th February 2013 aged 87.

BERNARD SHAW "St. Joan: A Chronicle Play in Six Scenes and an Epilogue", published Constable & Co. Limited, London, 1924, hand-cut paper, inscribed to front page "To May Morris from Bernard Shaw, 20th June 1924", cloth board bound with tooled and gilded spine. CONDITION REPORTS Whilst the book is basically sound there is evidence of denting and wear to the cover extremities particularly the top corners and along the top edge, inside front page with browning, foxing variously throughout - see examples in images, some pages uncut, other pages roughly cut which has resulted in rips (see images), rear page also very browned.

SIR WILLIAM OUSELEY (Translator) "The Bakhtyar Nama: A Persian Romance", with introduction and notes by W A Clouston, privately printed 1883, an edition of 330, of which 30 were printed on handmade paper and numbered, this a later copy i.e. after 30, tooled and gilded leather bound , inscribed "To Mrs. Morris from the editor". CONDITION REPORTS Book has general wear conducive to age. The cover is discoloured where it has clearly been kept on a bookshelf (lighter to edges). Some surface scratching conducive to age particularly to the back. Along edges and corners the leather work is quite worn. Binding appears solid. Some general yellowing to pages conducive to age and some foxing (quite bad on the first seven pages) then fading off throughout and disappearing by page 21. At the back there is some generally lighter foxing up until approx page 220. All other pages have some browning to the edges and the odd spot of foxing on the edge of a page and one or two dirty marks from general use. Overall binding appears in good sound condition.

WILFRED SCAWEN BLUNT "The Celebrated Romance of The Stealing of The Mare, translated from the original Arabic by Lady Anne Blunt, done in verse by......", published Reeves & Turner 1892, tooled and gilded leather bound (Lady Anne Blunt became a famous breeder of Arab horses as Lady Wentworth), together with WILFRED SCAWEN BLUNT "Esther - Love Lyrics and Natalia's Resurrection", published by Keegan, Paul, Trench, Trubner & Co. Limited, London, 1892, tooled and gilded cloth board bound, bears label "From the library of May Morris, Kelmscott Manor". CONDITION REPORTS Esther - Love Lyrics: small hole to first blank page which bears sticker "from the library of May Morris Kelmscott Manor". Edges of pages quite wrinkled and rough and with foxing and browning. Book general with foxing and some separating at spine (see images). The Stealing of the Mare: overall with browning and foxing. Covers with fading and discolouration and are particularly browned around the edges. Binding generally appears to be tight and in reasonable order. Where the leather has touched the first and last blank pages there is a brown stained impression of the leather around the edges of these pages (see images). The leather leather turn-in to the binding is stamped in gilt "THE DOVES BINDERY 1894"

T E LAWRENCE "Seven Pillars of Wisdom", published by Jonathan Cape, 1935, containing facsimile note "From Feisal Ibn Hussein" to frontispiece and inscribed "To May Morris from T E Lawrence", tooled and gilded cloth board bound. CONDITION REPORTS In used condition with staining / fading to the cover, particularly along the binding and towards the edge of the bindings both front and back. Back is particularly stained with some staining to the front. Corners are bent with wear along all edges and tips of corners. There is browning throughout to all pages and foxing along the edge of the book when it is shut. The front pages up to about page 22 all have some foxing - worse towards front and back has foxing up to about page 653 plus one or two other spots throughout the book on some of the plates in particular the author plate towards the back. Book appears complete. Binding appears reasonably solid. Pages 172 -182 seem to have more foxing again. The inscription to the first blank page "To May Morris from T E Lawrence" is in ink (not a facsimile), however, due to the date of publication of the book, it seems the inscription was written by another hand. The letter inside is a facsimile and is stated so at the top of the page.
