*Schneider Trophy. An Impressive Art Deco firescreen, commemorating the 1931 win at Cowshot, Hampshire, the glass panel etched 'The Schneider Trophy 1931, Flt. Lt. John. N. Boothman, September 13th 1931, 340.08mph', in a wooden frame, 77cm high x 49.5cm wide Air Chief Marshal Sir John Nelson Boothman, KCB, KBE, DFC, AFC (1901-57), educated at Harrow, joined the Royal Air Force in 1921 and became an instructor at the Central Flying School, he won the Schneider Trophy in 1931 which was in fact the last competition. His WWII and post war service saw him rise to the rank of Air Chief Marshal. Not part of the D'Arcy Greig collection. (1)
A Victorian carved mahogany cartouche-shaped firescreen:, with inset needlework panel depicting a Near Eastern figure on horseback, within a moulded and acanthus scroll frame, on dual end splayed legs with flowerhead and foliate ornament, terminating in whorl feet with castors, 67cm (2ft 2 1/2in) wide.
