A French gilt metal and mesh firescreen in Rococo Revival style, early 20th century, of cartouche form and cast with rocaille overall, raised on twin conforming legs; with two fenders, one with pierced frieze loosely in Gothic style raised on ball feet, the other a wirework and gilt metal spark guardCondition Report: The fire screen is: 71 x 62cmThe larger fender is: 31cm high, 126 wide, 28 deepThe smaller fender is: 27 x 29cm The items in the lot bear the usual minor marks, knocks and scuffs overall consistent with age and use.The mesh in the firescreen is a little bit dirty, but aside from that and some denting it appears intact.Polish residue in the recesses, and some rubbing to the gilding. The small fender has a damage to the top rail, where the metal is slightly bent. This example is also quite tarnished. the other fender has some surface oxidisation to the mesh and bottom rail, but aside from some bending to the wirework appears intact. A WOODEN FIRESCREEN PANEL, THE FEET REMOVED, DECORATED TO COMMEMORATE THE GORDON HIGHLANDERS IN SOUTH AFRICA 1900, the central motif being in the form of a khaki kilt with bullion embroidered panels and battle honours Doornkop, Pretoria, Zamd River and Hout-hek, width 78cm, height 100cm. The absence of a Condition Report does not imply that a lot is without imperfections. Please note carefully the exclusion of liability for the condition of lots contained in the Conditions of Sale.The wooden frame with an occasional knock and one finial missing. The central panel sound with no evidence of moth or other damage. The bullion embroidery dull through age, the kilt pin rusted.
AN ARTS AND CRAFTS STYLE WROUGHT IRON AND COPPER FIRESCREEN with embossed decoration of a peacock, and enamel Ruskin style roundels, 51cm wide 52cm high; together with a pair of andirons Good condition overall. Some patination/oxidisation as one would expect. Both roundels are good, some crazing, but no cracks The andirons are also good – there’s some movement in the bolted joints, but an easy enough fix I think.
