When opened, the surface has knocks and bumps, fading and cracking to the banding and some large scuff marks. There is water damage to the apron and legs - again wood is faded and there is some slight lifting to the veneer. There are several chunks of beading missing from the edge. Heavy scratches, Split to the side panels. There has been patching to the veneer, discolouration and a kind of blooming. The top right hand corner has a replacement section. Some of the veneer is bubbling. Drawer liners are split. Drawers are a little sticky / stiff. Legs don't look quite right. Probable replacements. Water marks, etc. General wear and tear conducive with age and use. See images for further details.
An 18th Century and later walnut chest, the oak top with moulded edge over two short and three long graduated drawers with brass swan neck handles raised on bun feet (the top two drawers with catch released from inside top long drawer) 95.5 cm wide x 53.5 cm deep x 91.5 cm high CONDITION REPORTS There is a large split to the top and discolouration to the surface, water ring marks, etc. The drawer fronts have signs of old worm and areas of patching and filling. The second drawer from the base has an area of wear in the top right hand corner where the veneer has lifted, etc. Replacement handles and escutcheons. There are various areas of moulding missing / replaced throughout. The right hand side has the initials "IC" carved in to the top. The right hand side panel is also split in various places. The handles for the top two drawers are very loose and come off very easily. Drawer liners of the three long drawers are all split. General wear and tear conducive with age and use. Lacking left side of front left foot and right side of back right foot and 3cm of moulding on right side corner in the middle, bottom of chest base board fallen out, and lacking right runner for bottom drawer. Overall ok and a nice colour. Top with some water stains and lacking 6cms back left edge. Old woodworm holes.
