Regarded for its beautiful hues, the watch's design is inspired by 1967 America's Cup winner, 'The Intrepid' which had several Heuer chronographs on board. To commemorate the win, Jack Heuer commissioned the 7754 (based off of the 7753), which today remains one of the brand's rarest and most coveted watches. The most notable characteristic of the watch is the colouring, which is directly taken from 'The Intrepid': a deep metallic blue dial, mint green subsidiary seconds and the iconic tri-colour green, mint green, and orange 15 minute count-down register. The distinctive mint green comes from the deck of 'The Intrepid' after an MIT study deemed it the colour least likely to produce distracting reflections. This lot is subject to the following lot symbols: ΩΩ VAT on imported items at the prevailing rate on Hammer Price and Buyer's Premium. For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com

Heuer. A very rare stainless steel automatic calendar chronograph bracelet watchModel: Carrera ChronomaticReference: 1153Date: Circa 1969Movement: 17-jewel Cal.11 automatic, signed on the bridge HeuerDial: Charcoal/blue sunburst, polished luminous tipped baton hour markers with white inserts, white outer 1/5th second divisions, raised outer tachymetre, silvered subsidiary dials at 3 and 9 for 30 minute and 12 hour recording, polished pointed baton hands with luminous and black inserts, red centre chronograph handCase: Brushed and polished tonneau form, screw down back, crown at 9, twin fluted chronograph pushers at 2 and 4, Number indistinctStrap/Bracelet: Brushed and polished Gay Frères link, HLC end linksBuckle/Clasp: Signed folding clasp stamped 3 69Signed: Case, dial & movementSize: 38mmFootnotes:In 1965 Jack Heuer met with his competitors Willy Breitling and Hans Kocher of Büren and the Dubois-Depraz company, and convinced them to participate in a joint venture to develop an automatic chronograph. It was the start of an ambitious partnership and was soon joined by the American watch producer Hamilton, which had established a major stake in the Büren watch company. The prototypes were promising and the newly named Calibre 11 'Chronomatic' movement; a symbiosis between 'chronograph' and 'automatic' exceeded all expectations. This Chronomatic is a very rare example of the first usage of the Calibre 11. One of the hallmarks of the early iteration is the instantaneous calendar which was later modified. Originally it used so much power it could stop the watch when it was wound down. Another is the almost industrial finish to some of the levers and shaky engraving on the signature plate. There are less than 10 that have appeared on the market and it was possible it was produced mainly for the press as almost a prototype. As the dials are prone to flaking, the originality of the lume plots and condition overall makes this example which is in good condition very rare indeed. This lot is subject to the following lot symbols: ΩΩ VAT on imported items at the prevailing rate on Hammer Price and Buyer's Premium. For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com

Another unique feature of the watch is its patented ergonomic chronograph activation system that functions via a rocker set in the band rather than the traditional chronograph buttons or pushers. This sleek design makes the motion of start, stop and resetting much more intelligible for the user. Four years later Journe gave us the Centigraphe Sport made of the exceptionally lightweight material aluminium. The Centigraphe Sport was available for just 3 years from 2011 to 2014 and saw the launch of the new 'lineSport' collection which would be dedicated to manufacturing watches with sportsmen and women in mind.
