ARSENAL A collection of 23 Arsenal Press Photos 1938 to 1970/71. Comes with two black & white team photos from the 1950's and 1967/68. Press photos include a picture of Cliff Bastin returning from training to Arsenal being greeted by team mates Drake, Crayston and Copping in 1938, 6 from the late 1940's action and team groups plus King George VI shaking hands with the team at a match at Portsmouth 27/11/1948, 10 from the 1950's mostly team groups but also includes the players of Tottenham and Arsenal lining up for a minute's silence at White Hart Lane 8/2/1952 following the death of George VI . The largest Press Photos are 12 x 9 inches and most are slightly smaller. Almost all have stamps or paper notations on the reverse. Generally good
An early 18th century walnut longcase clock with published provenanceJeremiah Martin, LondonThe overhanging cornice over a pierced fret on turned Doric columns, the trunk with long door veneered in bookmatched veneers framed by a quarter moulding, over a restored base, the 11 inch square brass dial with winged cherubs head spandrels, the silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring with cross half-quarter marks, the finely matted centre with subsidiary seconds dial, ringed winding squares and decorated chamfered date aperture, the movement with five knopped and finned pillars, anchor escapement and inside countwheel strike on a bell. The case possibly associated. 2.14m (7ft) high.Footnotes:Literature: Illustrated in colour on the back cover of 'The longcase clock', by Eric Bruton (second edition, 1976). A copy of the book is included with this lot. Provenance: Single family ownership for the last 47 years, purchased from Stende Antiques in 1973. In 1815 he changed his name by Act of Parliament to Abraham Gray HARFORD-BATTERSBY on inheriting his kinsman William BATTERSBY's estate and the BATTERSBY arms. He live at Stoke House, Westbury-on-Trym, Gloucestershire. In 1816 he married Elizabeth Gray DUNDAS (1794-1823) born at Larbet, Stirlingshire the daughter of Major General Thomas DUNDAS of Fingask and Carron Hall by Elizabeth Eleanora HOME daughter of Alexander HOME (died 1786) the 9th Earl Home.
