Pre-Columbian, Peru, north coast, Chimu culture, ca 900 to 1300 CE. Large and wonderful textile panel. Woven in coarse, almost burlap, cotton fibers then hand painted with central scene of three standing warriors, each holding staffs. Surrounding the warriors is a very whimsical scene of birds, jaguars and coatis. One of the finer examples of hand-painted textiles we have seen! Once professionally mounted will be stunning! Banjara woman's skirt, probably Maharashtra, north west India, 20th century, the indigo top block printed, embroidered waistband and hem with fabric ties; the hem with indigo block printed facing. Together with a Banjara appliqued and embroidered cushion and a similar cushion cover, both trimmed with cowrie shells.See Gillow, J & Barnard, N Indian Textiles, p. 206 for a similar skirt. (3)
