An impressive officer’s helmet of the 2nd Belgian Regiment of Carabiniers, c 1815-20, gilt brass skull and peaks with applied gilt mounts, comprising embossed headband, acanthus side ornaments, rayed ear rosettes with lion head centres, lion head helmet plate and tall ornamental comb with panelled sides and grenade in front, black hair plume with short tail. Good Condition, retaining much original gilt (lining, chinscales and side plume missing). Plate 50. Note: see lot 259 a miniature of an officer with similar helmet on table.
A Belgian cuircassier’s helmet c 1815 of the 5th Regiment, steel skull, broad beaver fur headband, leather peak, brass binding to rim and peak, tall brass comb with panelled sides, Medusa Head finial over breastplate bearing “5” badge to the front, black hair shaving brush plume and long hair falling back horsehair plume, leather backed chinscales, with star on disc ear roundels, leather and silk lining. Good Condition, (sword stroke dent to skull, minor wear and tarnish commensurate with age) Plate 51
A trooper’s helmet of the 1st Life Guards 1815, black leather skull, gilt brass peak with edge binding, all round headband embossed with scales, plate bearing crowned reversed and interlaced “GR” cypher, with small tablet below stamped “First Life Guards”, socket for side plume, scalloped, leaf and Medusa head embossed comb with blue and red wool crest. Good Condition (lining and chinscales missing, peak detached but present). Plate 59
A closed helmet in the XVI century style dating: 19th Century provenance: Europe Skull in one piece with short, twisted comb featuring longitudinal, fluted decorations, with an iron plume-holder on the back, on the right the button to release the beaver. Full visor, cusped and ribbed at the centre, with long eye-slots and rectangular air holes. Beaver with neck-guard in one piece, with button to release the ventail; recessed margin and twisted roping. Two-plate nape-guard with bordered en suite, featuring a series of fluted decorations en suite with the skull. Fine helmet in the Maximilian style, with skull in one piece; craft of extraordinary quality, faithful reproduction of the original ones of the epoch. dimensions: height 29,5 cm.

A khula-khud dating: circa 1800 provenance: Indopersia Iron skull, surmounted by a cusp of square section, provided with a knot and assembled on a hollow base shaped as a truncated cone; the surface of the helmet finely engraved with spirals of floral pattern alternated with gold-inlaid racemes (small parts missing); at the border of the skull cartouches featuring inscriptions in Arabic characters; at the front the sliding nose-piece with remains of inlays and two plume holders. Mail neck-defence of simple rings, fringed border. dimensions: length circa 55 cm.
A khula-khud dating: late 19th Century provenance: India Hemispherical, engraved, iron skull, finely engraved with effigy of noblemen on horseback, all surrounded by partially gilt floral motifs. At the lower part cartouches featuring gold-inlaid inscriptions in Arabic characters. At the top a cusp of square section with knot, on a circular base, featuring gold decorations; at the front two plume holders and the sliding nose-piece, with thumb-screw decorated en suite. Complete with mail neck-defence of simple closed, iron rings. dimensions: height 60 cm.
A rare silver-encrusted khula-khud dating: 18th Century provenance: Indopersia Strong, iron skull of hemispherical shape, with elongated and pointed top surmounted by a square cusp with knotted neck, decorated with remains of silver and gold inlays. The surface of the helmet is richly decorated with thick, silver inlays depicting fine engravings; frames of spirals enclose six court scenes alternatively depicting a king or a queen entertained by a female figure, or a juggler, or a dancer, each scene featuring two musicians having a different instruments for every depiction (drums, flutes, sitar, etc.), together with the nobles always come two attendants; at the upper part the frames of spirals intersect creating a thick, cage pattern. The lower band of the surface decorated with various cartouches featuring inscriptions in Arabic characters, with remains of gold inlays. The helmet is provided with a sliding nose-piece with cartouches at the edge featuring remains of silver and gold inlays, and two lateral plume-holder. Long mail neck-defence of simple, iron rings with fringed border and brass details. dimensions: height 60 cm.
A rare Moro helmet dating: first quarter of the 19th Century provenance: The Philippines Entirely made of brass. Skull in two halves, ribbed at the centre, the top chiselled and bent toward the back, at the base an embossed decoration depicting festoons with brass-headed studs (one in copper) and a longitudinal, fluted decoration; at the front a triple plume-holder; boat-shaped brim with a row of studs, recessed margin and hemmed border. Shaped as the typical morion of the Spanish colonies. dimensions: height 29 cm.
A rare Naga warrior's belt dating: late 19th Century provenance: India Consisting in nine rectangular plaques held together by rings; eight of them feature the relieved effigy of a monkey skull; each ring features ornamental pendants shaped as fang, as rayed disc or grotesque face. The plaque functioning as buckle features the effigy of a bird. It can be closed with a rope of plant fiber. dimensions: length 70 cm.

9th-12th century AD. A mixed group of bronze mounts comprising: an ox skull with prominent horns; a bifacial plaque with beak and horn, circular hole. 8.26 grams total, 29-37mm (1 - 1 1/2"). From an old Munich collection; acquired on the German art market before 2000. [2, No Reserve] Fine condition.
5th-4th century BC. A bronze helmet of Chalcidian type with narrow skull and carinated lower edge above the borow, short neck-guard with flared outer edge, deep lateral sockets for the ears, integral D-shaped lateral extensions to the temples pierced at the lower edge, short nasal extending from a reinforced brow ridge. The present helmet does not feature the hinged cheek-pieces normally associated with this type. It was used across the Hellenic world, and remained popular in southern Italy (Apulia). 1.5 kg, 29cm (11 1/2"). Ex Moore collection, Yorkshire, UK; acquired in the 1990s. "Fine condition, restored."
