SPANISH CARVED FIGURE OF A SAINT CHRYSOLIUS LATE 16TH/ EARLY 17TH CENTURY the standing figure wearing a long tunic tied at the waist with a cloak draped over his shoulders, his hands presented in supplication, the top portion of his head held in place by pegs(49cm high)Footnote: Note: Saint Chrysolius was a 3rd century AD missionary in northeastern Gaul, where he became a bishop. During the persecution of Diocletian he was martyred in the region of modern Flanders. According to legend, he was captured by Roman soldiers and condemned to be decapitated, however only the top of his skull was sliced off. The top of his cranium then broke into three pieces and fell to the ground where springs miraculously erupted. Chrysolius recovered to the top of his skull and walked to Komen, where he died. His relics are venerated in Bruges.

100-300 AD. Roman. A stunning marble head of a man. His long and beard are carefully modelled, with individually delineated hairs; the top of his head is covered with a fitted hemispherical skull-cap from below which peaks a widow’s peak. His brows are arched, his eyes wide open and his pupils are picked out with drilled pupils which stare into the distance; his thin, straight nose and pursed lips create an air of otherworldly nobility. His attitude and skullcap suggest that this piece represented as philosopher detached from earthly considerations. 20th century human skull and hand: Purchased previously some years ago from a London auction rooms, both skull and hand appear to have been prepared for use in the medical profession. The hand has been wired into position, the skull has a removable cranium section with retaining clip, and the lower jaw is retained with spring clips. Of medical / dental interest. Some minor wear and degradation consistent with age.

c. 2000-700 BC. Luristan Culture. Bronze sceptre formed from central tube which terminates in a stylised male head, representing the Master of Animals. He is flanked by two open-mouthed beasts, each of whom he grasps around the throat. Lower down the central tube are two further stylised human heads, arranged on atop the other, and below these, a large openwork ox-skull motif. The Master of Animals is an important motif in ancient art, symbolising man’s power over the natural world. Excellent condition. It is based on the novel A Dangerous Game by Friedrich Dürrenmatt. A Dangerous Game is a 1956 novel by the Swiss writer Friedrich Dürrenmatt. Its original German title is Die Panne, which means "The breakdown". It is known as Traps in the United States. It tells the story of a traveller who, when his car breaks down, is invited for dinner by a former judge, after which nightmarish developments follow. The work was initially written as a radio play, but was adapted into prose almost immediately. It won the 1956 Blind War Veterans’ Prize for best radio play and the literary award of the newspaper Tribune de Lausanne. Very good condition, creasing at the top left edge. Original vintage movie poster for a Polish release of a British crime drama Juggernaut under a title Britannic w niebespeczenstwie. Cool image of a ship at sea surrounded by a profile of black skull with clock numbers on the borders. Juggernaut is a 1974 British crime suspense film starring Richard Harris, Omar Sharif, and Anthony Hopkins. The film, which was directed by Richard Lester, was largely shot on location aboard the TS Hamburg in the North Sea. It was inspired by real events aboard QE2 in May 1972 when Royal Marines from the Special Boat Service were parachuted onto the ship because of a bomb hoax. In the film, when a luxury cruise ship reaches the high seas, its owner (Ian Holm) receives a disturbing phone call from a man known only as Juggernaut (Freddie Jones) : Pay a steep ransom or he will explode the ship. Soon after the demand, explosives expert Lt. Cmdr. Anthony Fallon (Richard Harris) and his squad parachute onto the cruise ship to defuse the rigged time bombs. On land, Superintendent John McLeod (Anthony Hopkins), who has family on board, searches for the terrorist. Excellent condition. Featured in this lot we have a fossilized taxidermy beaver and coyote skulls. The fossils display a dark brown bone with lighter teeth. The coyote skull displays the top and bottom jaw and displaying most of the teeth. The beaver skull displays a dark brown coloration with orange tinged front teeth. The skulls originate from the Pleistocene age (8-12,000 yrs old) from the River Terrance Deposit Bonner Springs, Kansas. The pieces show fair condition overall with some wear and signs of repair and damage. The coyote skull measures 7 1/4" long by 3 1/2" tall with the beaver skull measuring 5 1/4" long by 4" wide.
