CONDITION REPORT: The vase has very minor abrasions commensurate with age otherwise appears good with no further obvious signs of faults, damage or restoration. Height of jug is 25cm. E. Maurice & Co, Paris, a Gothic mantel clock: the eight-day duration movement having a replaced platform lever escapement and striking the hours and half-hours on a gong, the backplate stamped with the trademark of the maker E. Maurice & Co, Paris and numbered 5596, the cast-brass Gothic style case with embossed decoration to the front and stylised Arabic numerals to the ivorine plaques, surmounted by a brass carrying handle, height 25cm, including handle. *Biography E. Maurice & Co are recorded as working at Rue Charlot 75, Paris and showed carriage clocks at the 1889 Paris Exposition. They used Ernest Pitcher of E. Pitcher & Co, London as their sole importers into the country and were succeeded by Blanpain, who had originally shared premises with another fine Parisian carriage clock maker, Pierre Drocourt.

The image(taken from a painting by Greuze) shows a young girl standing beside a fountain, with a cracked pitcher in her hand. The visible silk measures 6 7/8``(17.5cms) across and a little over 9``(23cms) tall. Overall the picture measures 11 3/4``(29.75cms) across & 13 5/8``(34.75cms) tall.
