1970'S CUSTOM HI WATT 100 AMP AMPLIFIER HEAD. Model DR103 and serial number 5251. Comes with cover and in very good condition. "I went to see The Stranglers play at Bingley Hall Stafford and was so blown away by Jean Jacques Burnels playing and sound I resolved to copy his set up. Hiwatt 100 Head and 2x15 Vox Bass cab. Each Hiwatt head is handbuilt and wired, so each one is completely different from another. I tried a lot before I got one that sounded how I wanted! This is not the Original. That was stolen on the first New Order Tour of America. These are great British Amplifiers. I still use the new ones now. Very rugged and reliable."
JOY DIVISION LIVE RECORDING CASSETTES. Two cassettes to include Britannia Row Studios cassette featuring JD Love Will Tear Us Apart plus New Order and PR5 at the Tatton Community Hall, Chorley on 3/1/81. The second cassette is a recording of 6 tracks from 17/1/81 - tracks are Ice Age, Sound of Music, Ceremony, Exercise One, The Kill and In a Lonely Place."We were so young and un-jaded that we would play wherever, whenever and love it. Nothing was too much trouble. I am so jealous now."
c. 1937 Velocette KSS Project, 350 cc. Registration number DVN 218 (not registered with DVLA). Frame number TBC. Engine number KSS 10242. Gearbox 10 - 1980. The overhead cam KSS was designed to appeal to the rider seeking a sporting road machine. The overhead cam 350 cc Velocette engine came into being in 1925, and within twelve months had won its first Junior TT, fitted in a new frame designated KSS. The effect of the win made the machine so popular and demand so phenomenal that Velocette had to invest in a new factory to keep pace. Situated at Hall Green, the Birmingham facility then became the home of Velocette for many years to follow. K series engines were produced here at the rate of around 1000 a year until the thirties depression so affected sales of luxury and performance bikes that the company had to refocus efforts on the less expensive 2 stroke and overhead valve powered roadsters. Over the years these GTP (2 stroke) and MAC (ohv) machines became almost equal in performance to the 'cammy' models which had to be upgraded to Mk2 form in 1935 to maintain the performance edge. Always expensive to manufacture and not easy to maintain the KTS (touring) and KSS (sporting) versions continued in production subsidised by sales of the less expensive models, but giving the company a broader range of products to offer the public. There is paper on file stating that KSS Velocette registration number DVN 218, see rear number plate, was Fred Smith ex Doreem of Lightcliffe. Sold with a Spares booklet, buyers should satisfy themselves as to the completeness of this lot.
Richardson & Son, Hull - an ash and elm Windsor armchair, with pierced splat and turned legs, stamped label to the underside. Richardson and Sons was the largest and most prestigious furniture maker in nineteenth-century Hull. The founder Thomas Richardson claimed to have started the business in 1812. By 1903 Richardson and Sons had been appointed upholsterers to King Edward VII. They undertook major projects in Hull, including furnishing the Council Chamber of the New Town Hall in 1863. The mayor's and doorkeeper's chairs made by Richardson and Sons for the Town Hall are still preserved in Hull Museums' collections. In 1854 they made three ornately carved and gilded softwood chairs for Queen Victoria, Prince Albert and the Prince of Wales to use during their visit to Hull. The company is not listed after 1915.

MORSE SAMUEL F. B.: (1791-1872) American Inventor associated with the single-wire telegraph system and the development of the Morse Code. A good A.L.S., Saml. F. B. Morse, three pages, 8vo, New York, 30th April 1862, to Rev. J. Treadwell Walden. Morse acknowledges receipt of his correspondent's courteous letter and a copy of the Atlantic Monthly, remarking 'I have read with deep interest your admirably written article to which you refer, and were I to designate its character, and the impressions it has made upon me, of its high intellectual power, in fitting terms, I might perhaps, be accused of being unduly influenced by its panegyric and the flattering terms in which you are pleased to speak of my humble instrumentality in introducing to the world the invention which has modified so greatly, and is still further to modify the intercourse of the nations' and further adding 'While conscious of the position which humanly speaking has justly been assigned to me by the almost unanimous voice of the civilized world (Great Britain as a Government is an exception) I can say to you that I yet am fully sensible that I am a wea[k] if an honored instrument in the ha[nd] of the giver of every good and perfec[t] gift, by whom it has pleased Him to grant this boon to his children, and to Him be all the glory'. In concluding Morse invites his correspondent to call upon him either at his residence in New York during the winter or in Po'keepsie during the summer and in a postscript adds 'I send you a copy of a pamphlet (no longer present) which embodies my views on the troubles that distract our country'. A letter of interesting content relating to Morse's contribution to the invention of a single-wire telegraph system. Some light overall age wear and light staining and a few small areas of paper loss, neatly and professionally repaired, only very slightly affecting a few words of text and not the signature, G Jacob Treadwell Walden (1830-1918) American Episcopal Clergyman and Author who was appointed on two special commissions by the United States Sanitary Commission in 1864 to investigate the treatment of prisoners of war. He later lived in England from 1886-89 during which time he preached in Westminster Abbey and wrote The Story of England in Westminster Hall. Father of Arthur Treadwell Walden (1871-1947) American Klondike Gold Rush Adventurer and a member of Byrd's first Antarctic Expedition. Morse's declaration that the Government of Great Britain were an exception to the 'unanimous voice of the civilized world' was made as a result of the English scientist and inventors Charles Wheatstone (1802-1875) and William Cooke (1806-1879) launching a commercial telegraph prior to the American inventor. Wheatstone and Cooke patented the electrical telegraph in 1837 however, within a few years their multiple wired signalling method was overtaken by Morse's cheaper method and the American fought vigorously to be called the sole inventor of the electromagnetic telegraph despite the previous inventions. The Morse telegraphic apparatus was officially adopted as the standard for European telegraphy in 1851 and only the United Kingdom (with its extensive overseas empire) kept the needle telegraph of Wheatstone and Cooke.

Iden Walter J. FINE & RARE OLD ENGLISH CLOCKS IN THE COLLECTION OF WALTER J IDEN, LONDON Two volumes hand-compiled with photographs by Iden mounted on card leaves and with detailed descriptions in ink, tissue guards, with manuscript index at beginning of vol. 1, introductory leaves to each section and notes at end of vol. 2, presentation inscribed in ink Melvyn H. Rollason With the Collectors compliments, Walter J. Iden, March 1941, 2 Volumes to the inside of the front board of vol. 1, original brown embossed cloth boards fastened with metal screws and with card slip cases inscribed M. H. ROLLASON ESQ. LUDSTONE HALL. CLAVERLEY, NR. WOLVERHAMPTON. (2). The current lot is one of only a few sets of albums produced by Walter Iden who clearly enjoyed creating heavily annotated photographic records of his collection compiled into albums. However as the collection grew and the albums became full he was in the habit of presenting them to an interested or helpful friend before starting new revised ones to include recent acquisitions. The earliest of these albums known is dated 1936 and, as with the current lot, notes were also included to record examples which had been disposed as the collection evolved. Mr. and Mrs. H. Rollason were connoisseur collectors of furniture, fine art and objects who lived at Ludstone Hall, near Claverley, Wolverhampton, 1939-70. The building itself is a splendid example of a Carolean mansion, built within an existing moat for the Whitmores around 1607.The house was well restored and its grounds improved by John Round Cartwright, who lived there until his death in 1910. In addition to the extensive landscape works undertaken by John Round Cartwright a red brick summerhouse is thought to have been added by Mr. and Mrs. Rollason; the house and contents belonging to them were also featured in a ten-page spread in the December 1965 edition of The ANTIQUE COLLECTOR.

My Father-in-law could remember that Ringo asked for a jam butty although the food was very special. On landing at New York the group decided to stay on the air craft, against the wishes of the American customs. The flight crew, however, had to change and as My Father -in-law entered the arrivals hall he was asked by the screaming young crowd if the Beatles had spoken to him, he said that indeed they had and that he had served them food, on that they mobbed him and after he was rescued by the security he found that his Neck Tie had been cut off at the end by one of the fans as a memento! He followed this with another winning town hall design for Congleton, a small town near Manchester. These successes prompted his move to London in 1865, and in 1866 Godwin, with his partner Henry Crisp, entered the competition for the building of the new Bristol Assize Courts under the nom de plume '1066' or 'Ten Hundred and Sixty-Six'. Their designs won first, second and third prizes. Despite this, and amid protestations, a second competition was order by the town council, which Godwin again entered, this time only gaining second place to an entry from Popes & Binden, which was the one finally built. The collection on offer comprises a number of drawings from the first competition, including the original drawing

Thomas Koether (New York, Florida, Born 1940) "Offshore" Large Abstract Oil on canvas painting. Signed lower left. Dated verso. Sight size: 48 x 60 in. Koether was accepted to the school of the Art Institute of Chicago at age 20. In 1963 Koether Moved to New York City and started going to the Art Student?s League. In June of 1966 he graduated with honors from N.Y.U. and was accepted to the N.Y.U. graduate school of Communications Arts in Cinematography under Haig Manoogian. In 1970, he moved to Paris to take a studio space at the American Center on Boulevard Raspail. In July of ?71 Koether went to Italy and did a lot of drawing and watercolors. In Florence he met Italian art restorers and learned a lot about restoration from them. That same year, he participated in a group show at the American Center and sold several pieces ? one to director Henry Pillsbury. The work from Ibiza and Paris dealt with attempts to delineate abstraction as a form with his own experience of my own abstractness ? landscapes and still-lives of my own psychic and emotional space. This work has a post-psychedelic aspect. In 1974 Koether moved back to New York and worked in N.Y.C. as an art restorer with Roger Ricco Associates. That year, he had a one man show at Ajanta Gallery on East 9th Street. In 1976, Koether moved to Australia and established an art conservation business and worked on the 5 major collections of Oceanic art in Australia.
