Reynolds (John 'of the Mint') A Brief and Easie way by Tables, to cast up Silver..., title in red and black within typographic border, by Thomas Fawcet, 1651 [colophon dated 1652]; bound with 4 other works (in 2 vol.) by the same author, A2 recto with manuscript corrections in the author's hand, another work with two-column table also in Reynold's hand and with some corrections to printed figures throughout and at the end "The last of Sept. 1663 This Booke examined By me John Reynolds of ye Mynt", uniformly bound in contemporary sheep, red morocco label to one volume, the other with spine rubbed, Macclesfield library copies with bookplates and small embossed stamps, 8vo, 1651-63. ⁂ Fine collection of five very rare or unique tabular tracts on mensuration, gauging, and the casting-up of silver, gold, and pewter, by the best-known master of the mint before Isaac Newton. Reynolds's lifelong career as assay-master (at Goldsmiths' Hall) and assistant master and master of the Royal Mint (1648-52, 1652-63) has been studied by C. E. Challis, in 'John Reynolds and the Sterling Standard', British Numismatic Journal 62 (1992), 237-46, and more generally in his New History of the Royal Mint (1992). Reynolds's various 'Tables', although of lasting use and influence in their time, were published privately, almost certainly in small quantities, designed for colleagues and subordinates in the Government of Charles II. As practical handbooks, their printed text was subject to amplifications and corrections (not, for the most part, yet recognized by ESTC-online), and when these could not be instantly provided in the press, Reynolds himself (as here) seems to have supplied his own MS updates, and certified copies of his works by signing them. The four other works comprise: Untitled table of four leaves, 'By the Proclamation, / 1662. / Crowne Gold of 22. Carrets', Not found in Wing or ESTC-online, but the BL has a copy; The Pewterers Mold ... by John Reynold [sic] of the Mynt. Printed by T. F. 1662, Not in Wing or ESTC-on-line; A Table Concerning the Line of Measure. Composed by John Reynolds of the Mint, 1662, Not in Wing or ESTC-on-line; For Emptiness. A Short and easie way by Tables for finding out the Emptiness of any Casks. Calculated by me John Reynalds of the Mynt. London, Printed by T. F. for the Author, 1663, with three blank leaves at the end containing further manuscript notes on wine casks from Bordeaux and Spain, etc., in the hand of the rear-pastedown annotator of (1) above. A very early English attempt at systematic 'gauging' tables, which were essential to Excise inspectors for determining quantities of wine and spirits imported, Not in Wing or ESTC-on-line.

1955 Jaguar XK140 SE Drophead Coupe PLEASE NOTE: This lot is currently undergoing a cherished number plate transfer. It has been inspected by a DVLA representative and is expected to be re-issued with the number plate 'TSK 491' shortly. - Former Jaguar Drivers' Club concours award winner and twice featured on the front cover of the XK Gazette - Sympathetically uprated by renowned marque specialist Classic Motor Cars of Bridgnorth in 1998/99 including partial engine overhaul, Getrag five-speed gearbox, alternator conversion, higher capacity radiator etc Launched at the 1954 Motor Show, the XK140 boasted the same bewitching styling as its forebear but allied it to a host of important mechanical improvements. Chief among these was the adoption of rack and pinion steering. Though, the fitment of telescopic shock absorbers (in place of the XK120's antiquated lever arm dampers) also had a noticeably beneficial effect on handling / roadholding. With its engine and bulkhead repositioned three inches further forward, the new model enjoyed a notably roomier cabin (the fixed and drophead coupe variants gaining occasional rear seats as a result). Available in 'standard', 'special equipment' or 'special equipment plus C-type cylinder head' guises, power and torque outputs ranged from 190bhp / 210lbft to 210bhp / 213lbft. Distinguished by its one-piece bumpers and simpler, more imposing radiator grille, the XK140 was among the fastest cars of its generation. Reputedly capable of over 130mph, it focused public consciousness on Jaguar's continued success at Le Mans (the Coventry marque winning the endurance classic in 1951, 1953, 1955, 1956 and 1957). According to its accompanying Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate, this particular example - chassis S817502 - was factory finished in Cream with Red leather upholstery and a Black hood. A Special Equipment model, its original specification also comprised a C-Type cylinder head, twin exhaust system, wire wheels with centre-lock fixing and twin fog lamps. Dispatched to Max Hoffman's famous New York dealership on 18th June 1955, the Jaguar is known to have belonged to Florence Caruso, Richard Reitter and Herbert Simms amongst others whilst Stateside. Repatriated as a stalled project during 1988, the XK140 was first UK registered as 'TSK 491' on May 1st 1992 to Anthony Jackson of Henley-in-Arden by which time it had been extensively restored including a conversion from left- to right-hand drive. Briefly belonging to Stephen Murphy of Wolverton, the Drophead Coupe was acquired by its previous keeper William Brown of Colton on October 13th 1994 for £34,500. Forming part of the JDHT's 'Hall of Fame' display at the Top Gear Classic & Sportscar Show on May 6th-8th 1995 which saw eighty-two cars corralled to celebrate sixty years of the Jaguar marque, chassis S817502 went on to win various Jaguar Drivers' Club Concours d'Elegance awards (including two 1st places). A keen enthusiast whose garage also housed an Aston Martin DB5 and Big Healey, Mr Brown entrusted the XK140 to Phil Kennedy of Renascence Classic Cars for a cosmetic refresh in 1997 (photos on file). The following two years saw the Drophead Coupe uprated by renowned marque specialist Classic Motor Cars of Bridgnorth with a view to enhancing its drivability, reliability and driving dynamics. As well as having its 3.4 litre engine attended to (re-ground crankshaft, new shell bearings, unleaded fuel cylinder head conversion), the Jaguar gained a Getrag five-speed manual gearbox and diaphragm clutch, Cambridge Motor Sport hi-torque starter motor, electronic ignition, alternator and negative earth conversion, more modern spin-on oil filter, higher capacity radiator, expansion tank, electric cooling fan, electric fuel pump, Moto Lita steering wheel, glovebox concealed Brantz trip meter and custom-built bucket seats (originals retained with the car). In total Mr Brown spent over £45,000 improving and fettling the XK140 between 1994 and 2006 when it entered the current ownership. Thoroughly enjoyed by the vendor over the last eleven years, the Drophead Coupe is said to have proved very reliable consuming no more than a pint of oil during a tour through England, Scotland and Wales during 2016. Riding on 54-spoke wire wheels and benefiting from a recent smartening of its bodywork and paintwork, this much-loved Jaguar is offered for sale with a very large and detailed history file plus a spare set of body-coloured wire wheels.

Base: 45cm high, 88cm wide, 62cm deep Plinth: 8cms high, 84cm wide, 59cm deep Exhibited: Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, 1984, V15 Harrogate Festival Exhibition, 1985 On loan to the Mercer Art Gallery and the Harrogate Town Hall since 1991 *Artists' Resale Rights/Droit de Suite may apply to this lot, please refer to our Terms of Business Sydney Harpley was born in 1927 and served in the army National service 1945-48. Between 1950-53 Harpley studied sculpture at Hammersmith School of Art, where he gained the National Diploma in Art and Design. This was followed with a period spent at the Royal College of Art from 1953-56 and was made an Associate of the Royal College of Art. Harpley first exhibited sculpture at the Young Contemporaries in London and the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition of 1954, subsequently exhibiting at the latter every year. Harpley has held a number of highly successful one man shows, including those at The Society of Arts, Cape Town, South Africa (1964), Adler Fielding Gallery, Johannesburg, South Africa (1964), The White House Gallery, Breda, Holland (1974), Nevil Gallery Bath, UK, (1983) to name but a few amongst others within Europe and the United Kingdom. Mixed exhibitions have also been numerous within England. In 1958/9 Harpley was commissioned by London County Council to produce two sculptures, which was quickly followed by a commission from Hemel Hempstead New Town in 1960 for another four works. Cape Town has an over life size memorial to Jan Christian Smuts, amongst other international commissions, but perhaps ''Girl on Swing'' for the Singapore Botanical Gardens of 1984 is most notable here being no.1 from the edition of 6 and commissioned by his Excellency David Marshall, Singapore Ambassador to France. Harpley also lectured at several art schools within the United Kingdom and acted within various committees including the Selection Committee for RA, the Summer Exhibition (1975-76), Council of RA (1975-6) & 1982-3. Bronzes by this important Neo-Romantic artist can be found in many international and national collections including the National Gallery of New Zealand, the National Gallery of South Africa, Bradford City Art Gallery, University of Leeds (The Stanley and Audrey Burton Gallery), Samuel Josefowitz Collection, Geneva, Fleur Cowles Meyer Collection, London and the Paul Mellon Collection, USA. He has also produced several significant portrait busts on commission which include: HSH Prince Albert of Monaco for HSH Princess Grace of Monaco, Lee Kwan Yew, Prime Minister of Singapore and Viscount Villiers for Lord Jersey to name but a few. Sydney Harpley's work captures the full grace of the female form. ''Girl on a Swing'' should be considered one of his finest works representing neo-romanticism in its purest form and arguably equivalent to some of the earlier work produced by Degas and Rodin of a similar theme.

* JOHN DANIEL REVEL ROI RP (SCOTTISH 1884 - 1967), PORTRAIT OF A CHILD oil on canvas, signed 51cm x 42cm Framed Note: John D Revel was born in Dundee in 1884. He studied at Dundee School of Art, becoming an Art Pupil Teacher. After qualifying as a teacher he taught for two years in Shipley, Yorkshire before becoming the Principal Teacher of architecture in Preston, Lancashire. In 1906 he gained an open Scholarship to the RCA and in 1911 left the College with a degree in architecture, a degree in painting and the award of a Travelling Scholarship for painting. After a year abroad he was offered and took up the post of Headmaster at Chelsea School of Art. He also saw service in the First World War in Mesopotamia and India, becoming an official artist to the Expeditionary Force (water-colour paintings survive from this time). He specialised in portraiture and landscape. Revel was elected a member of the International Society of Painters, the Royal Portrait Society and the Royal Institute of Oil Painters. In 1925 he took up the post of Director at Glasgow School of Art. Under his directorship the Extension Building (now the Assembly Hall) was built and the School saw an upsurge in student and social events, notably the development of the Student Representative Council, the growth of the Glasgow School of Art Dramatic Club and the birth of the Kinecraft Society. Revel kept up the tradition of teacher/headmaster/director by occasionally taking the architect's drawing class. The degree course in Architecture produced its first graduates during his time as director, quite a few of whom were women. The artist has works in the collections of Glasgow and Dundee museums. Only three of Revel's paintings are recorded in UK auction records (Artnet) with the most recent being ''New Orleans Boy'', a 50 x 40cm oil on canvas, which was sold by McTear's for £1800 (hammer) as lot 1486 29th November 2012.
A Regency carved oak and ebonised hall seat in the manner of George Bullock The rectangular panelled seat with reeded edge and turned reeded arms with lotus leaf carved supports, with lunette and ball carved apron, on reeded turned tapering legs and spool feet, 76cm wide, 47cm deep, 62cm high. The design of this window seat is often attributed to the workshop of George Bullock (1777/8 1818). Bullock had a varied career, having various partners and cabinet works both in Liverpool and London until his death; although, it is clear that he was originally trained as a sculptor and modeller. The above lot relates to the pair of window seats in holly and oak by George Bullock supplied in 1817 to M.R Boulton (died 1842) and thence by descent to Major Eustace Robb, Tew Park, Oxfordshire which were sold at Christie's Tew Park Sale, 27-29 May 1987 and then subsequently at Christie's London Fine Furniture, 27 November 2003, lot 179. A set of three window seats of this form from the Lily and Edmond Safra collection sold Sotheby’s. London, November 3, 2005, lot 354 ($48,000) and a further example, Sotheby's New York, Kentshire: A Legendary Collection, October 18, 2014, lot 328.

*Belize - New River. View of Pembroke Hall, New River [British Settlement of Belize], circa 1785, pen & ink on laid paper, with grey and pale blue wash, with handwritten title and key in ink below, signed James S. Hoare lower right (indistinct), some soiling and waterstains, sheet size 158 x 230 mm (6.25 x 9 ins) A rare eye-witness view by the British settler James S. Hoare of the Settlement at Pembroke Hall, on the New River in Belize, in the northern region of Corozal. Britsh settlers, or Baymen, had contested ownership of land along the Bay of Honduras with the Spanish since the 17th century. After years of Spanish attacks, these settlers began returning to the region in 1784, and were permitted by the Convention of London of 1786 to cut and export logwood and mahogany back to Europe, using slave labour. The present view shows the small settlement of Pembroke Hall on the New River in northern Belize, and shows the British Schooner Richard on the river, a large central dwelling house, Store, Cookroom, Negro Houses, and Pit-Pan canoes. James Hoare may have been related to Major Richard Hoare, one of the most influential English Baymen of this period. (1)
A CASED SILVER PAPAL MEDAL, coming in an embossed red Morocco case with spring action holder system and blue lining which is printed in gold lettering 'THIS SILVER MEDAL BEARING THE LIKENESS OF HIS HOLINESS WAS PRESENTED TO LADY MEUX, BY POPE LEO XIII THROUGH HIS EMINENCE CARDINAL RAMPOLLA APRIL 1899'. The medal itself has the profile of Pope Leo XIII below which is engraved 'BIANCHI' and the reverse having an image of what appears to be the Pope meeting Christ with 'BORGIANIS DIAETIS INCVLVM PRISTINVM RESTITVTIS' around the scene and the date MDCCCXCVIII belowNOTE: Lady Meux was born a butcher's daughter Valerie Susan Langdon in 1847, wife to Sir Henry Meux 3rd Baronet - a wealthy London Brewer, she was never accepted her husbands family or polite society due to having claimed to be an actress, bar maid and banjo player going by the name of Val Reece in Music Hall but rumours abound about her being a prostitute. She was painted three times by Whistler, one of which is part of the Frick collection, the third piece thought to have been destroyed by Whistler himself after arguments between the two. She enjoyed spending her wealth on extravagance, being known to drive herself around London in a carriage drawn by a pair of Zebras and was rumoured to attend Boxing prize fights incognito. As well as this she adorned their Theobalds home in Hertfordshire with such things as a swimming pool and an indoor roller skating rink and even persuaded her husband to Purchase Christopher Wren's Temple Bar from the City of London and installed at their country estate as a new gateway. Lady Meux was a passionate collector of ancient Egyptology with Egyptologist Wallis Budge, publishing a catalogue of over 1,700 of her pieces including 800 scarabs and amulets. His publication 'The Book of Paradise' was dedicated to her. She eventually offered the collection to the British Museum, but the trustees turned this down and it was sold. She also acquired five illustrated Ethiopic manuscripts, and on finding that they were revered by the Ethiopians, she left them in her will to Emperor Menelik. During the Second Boer War, the early British reverses had made headline news and the defence of Ladysmith had made a particular impression on Lady Meux. On hearing of the landing of naval guns for the Battle of Ladysmith she had ordered, at her own expense, six naval 12-pounders on special field carriages made by Armstrong of Elswick. The guns were sent directly to Lord Roberts in South Africa, because they had been refused by the War Office. They were known as the "Elswick Battery", and were manned by the 101st (Northumbrian) Regiment Royal Artillery (Volunteers). Apparently Sir Hedworth Lambton, the commander of the Naval Brigade at Ladysmith, returned to England, he called on Lady Meux at Theobalds to thank her for her gift and recount his adventures. She was so taken with him that she made him the chief beneficiary of her will, on condition that he change his surname to Meux as she was without direct heirs. When she died on 20 December 1910, he willingly changed his name by Royal Warrant and inherited the Hertfordshire estate

A superb example VGC. The cap and plume are housed in their original metal storage tins. The cap box with brass engraved name plate "Major W.H. Greenly XII Royal Lancers" ... Accompanied by a superb set of gold bullion cap lines.Major-General W.H. Greenly was commissioned in the 12th Lancers on 20 February 1895 and served as Adjutant of the regiment during the South African War and for his services was awarded the DSO.Remaining with the Army after the war he spent from 1906 until 1912 in various staff positions, principally with the cavalry in Aldershot Command and in January 1912 he was given command of the 19th Hussars. At the outbreak of the Great War the 19th Hussars were split up as divisional cavalry and on the 19th September 1914 he was appointed GSO1 2nd (Cavalry) Division, recently formed under the command of Hubert Gough. He remained in this post until April 1915, when he was promoted GOC 9th (Cavalry) Brigade, 1st (Cavalry) Division and from November 1915 until November 1916 he served as Chief of staff for the XIII Corps, commanded by Sir Walter Congreve. This Corps was heavily engaged on the Somme and achieved the greatest success on 1 July, including the capture of Montauban. In November 1916 he was appointed GOC 2nd (Cavalry) Division. In March 1918 he was given command of the 14th Light Division, which would soon feel the full force of the German Spring Offensive. Major-General Greenly handled this difficult situation with energy, ability and calm. He was confronted with a difficult problem, and succeeded in concentrating and withdrawing the 14th Division from a situation which at one time looked critical. However the strain of his new command appears to have rested heavy upon him and he was consequently relieved of command, suffering 'exhaustion from exposure'. Haig recorded more brutally in his diary that 'Greenly "¦ went off his head with the strain'. After a period of rest he was once again recommended for command, but with the war nearly over he was appointed Chief of the Military Mission to Romania. He resigned his commission in 1920. It is interesting to note that the tin has a paper label for the Hereford Military Exhibition, Shire Hall Hereford, this being his county of his birth.

Yeats: A Catalogue Raisonné of the Oil Paintings, Andre Deutsh, London, 1992, Vol. I, page 78, catalogue no. 91 (illustrated in black and white) Fresh Horses depicts a night-time scene of a well-dressed horseman bringing out new animals. These are intended for an unseen cart that has stopped temporarily for this purpose on its long excursion. The freshness of the horses is evident from their prancing legs and the frisky movement of their heads. This is especially obvious in that of the brown horse whose upturned eye reflects a night-time light and on whose rein the man has a firm hold. (The same light is reflected on the nose and body of the dun (beige) horse and on the jacket of the man, uniting the group and suggesting their vivid intrusion into the peaceful evening). The experienced coachman in his black cap and white muffler contrasts with the horses in his steady gait. The dramatic cut-off composition adds a note of modernity as well as elevating the sense of forward movement. The long empty road leading across a barren landscape behind the group suggests the long journey ahead and the ordeal of nocturnal travel. But the particular austere nature of the landscape dominated by the broad expanse of sky, also evokes the peculiar nature of coastal Mayo where sea and sky constantly intrude into the land. Hilary Pyle has traced Fresh Horses to an earlier drawing in one of Yeats's sketchbooks dating to 1905 when the artist was travelling in north Mayo in the company of J. M. Synge. The drawing is inscribed 'Changing Horses on the way to Belmullet'. Yeats referred to another sketch from this visit to Belmullet in his creation of The Country Shop (1912, National Gallery of Ireland). The experience of visiting this region was clearly very memorable and important to him. Yeats's interest in horses is evident from other paintings of this period including The Circus Wagon (1912, Private Collection), that shows the night-time arrival of a horse-driven coach into a sleeping town. The composition of Fresh Horses is however more intimate and more focused on the relationship between the animals and their minder. The painting has a very prestigious provenance. Having been acquired by the Dublin gallerist and admirer of Yeats's work, Leo Smith, it was subsequently owned by the collector and barrister, Richard MacGonigal and by the distinguished stage and screen actor, Peter O'Toole. 1. Indeed I hope to revisit Denmark before too long', further adding 'Now that I have resigned from public office I find there are so many things which need my attention at Chartwell that I really do not feel I can get away this summer, when the weather in Denmark is at its best'. Churchill concludes 'I remember well the clever precautions you took for the safety and comfort of our flight to Denmark in 1950'. Lightly laid down to a folio page removed from a scrapbook and with some very minor, light staining. Also including Clementine S. Churchill (1885-1977, Wife of Churchill) T.L.S., Clementine S. In May 1945, he worked as a liaison officer between the British forces and the Danish government. Following the war Christensen served as Managing Director of Scandinavian Airlines System (SAS) from 1948-78. The present letters are of interest for several reasons - Churchill's letter of December 1953 is written just over a week after the Nobel Banquet at the City Hall in Stockholm on 10th December and relates to his wife's flight to Sweden in order to accept the Nobel Prize for Literature on behalf of her husband. The Banquet speech, delivered by Clementine Churchill for her husband, opened 'The Nobel Prize in Literature is an honour for me alike unique and unexpected and I grieve that my duties have not allowed me to receive it myself here in Stockholm from the hands of His Majesty your beloved and justly respected Sovereign. I am grateful that I am allowed to confide this task to my wife….' Winston Churchill visited Copenhagen in Denmark in 1950 and received an Honorary Degree (PhD) from the University of Copenhagen. During the visit, he also made a tour of the Carlsberg brewery and in Churchill's honour they unveiled their Special Brew (originally named V-beer) following the Danish tradition of producing a new beer to celebrate outstanding events such as a Royal occasion or European Coronation. Churchill's favourite drink was cognac, so in brewing him a commemorative beer, the brewers at Carlsberg created a stronger lager with cognac flavours. With an Alcohol by Volume of 9%, Special Brew was launched throughout Denmark at Christmas 1952 and has been available in the United Kingdom since the 1970s.

"STARS AND STRIPES" REPORTS ON THE ATOMIC BOMBIssue of "The Stars and Stripes", 4pp. folio, Aug. 8, 1945, featuring the banner headline "Mighty Atom Stuns the World". Illustrating these stories is a photograph of the Hanford Site in Washington State, which produced the plutonium used in the "Trinity" bomb and in the "Fat Man" device dropped on Nagasaki. Many other articles in this issue discuss the new weapon, collecting the responses of notable figures, including one of its creators, Robert Oppenheimer, and comparing the successful attacks to the failure of Germany's atomic weapons initiatives. The newspaper is toned throughout, with some chipping to the edges, else very good. Also present are two period souvenir images depicting the aftermath of the Hiroshima explosion, one of which depicts "ground zero", with the famous "atomic dome" of the Hiroshima Prefectural Industrial Promotion Hall visible at center. 'WALES GREATEST EVER' - SIR GARETH EDWARDS' INTERNATIONAL WELSH RUGBY JERSEY MATCH WORN V IRELAND IN 1977 The jersey from the 25-9 victory in Cardiff Arms Park is in excellent condition with the collars, labels and No.9 on the back. It has been remarked within rugby memorabilia circles that Sir Gareth 'keeps his jerseys' and that if an opportunity arises to purchase one at auction then it would be a rare opportunity indeed. Provenance: letters to accompany the jersey outlining the ownership history of the jersey and confirming that Sir Gareth had verified its authenticity. Sir Gareth gave the jersey directly to Mr Ken Rees after the match, the jersey then passed on to the current owner during a charity auction in 2007. There is also an email from former Wales International Neil Boobyer stating that Sir Gareth had confirmed that the jersey was given to Mr Rees after the match. The 1970s are regarded as the glory years of Welsh rugby and there were many great and entertaining players. However it is Gareth Edwards that we think of first when recalling those fantastic amateur years. Sir Gareth Edwards CBE, the son of a coalminer was raised in the mining community of Gwaun-Cae-Gurwen near Neath, South Wales. It was in Pontardawe Technical School that his sporting prowess first came to the fore and where he excelled academically winning a scholarship to the elite Public School of Millfield in Somerset. Here he found a natural ability for many different sports - he played football for West Wales Youth and signed for Swansea City at the age of 16. He also showed promise in gymnastics, tennis and athletics but it was clear by the age of seventeen that rugby was goinpg to be his sport and scrum-half his position. Edwards gained his first cap against France at the age of 19 in 1967. He went on to win 53 caps over eleven years including 13 as captain. He was Wales' youngest ever captain at the age of 20. Sir Gareth was blessed with having two of the most celebrated and natural fly-halves on his shoulder in Barry John and Phil Bennett and it was said that both scrum-half and either of the respective fly-halves had an uncanny telepathic-like understanding on the pitch. All Sir Gareth's caps were won in succession and there was never an injury or a dip in form that kept him off the team-sheet. In all Sir Gareth scored twenty International tries for Wales. During this era, Wales were dominant in the Five Nations Championship - winning the title seven times and taking three Grand Slams. Edwards was named Player of the Year in Wales in 1969, he was awarded the prestigious BBC Wales Sports Personality of the year in 1974 and received and MBE in 1975. Edwards played for the British & Irish Lions ten times and was part of the legendary 1971 winning series in New Zealand and the 1974 unbeaten South Africa tour side. He spent his entire senior club career with Cardiff RUFC, scoring 69 tries in 195 matches. He was also the scorer of 'that try'. The legendary 1973 Barbarians effort v New Zealand, regarded as the 'best try ever scored'. In 2001 Sir Gareth Edwards was voted the 'Greatest Welsh Player of all time' by the Welsh Rugby Former International Players Association' and in a 2003 poll by Rugby World magazine, Edwards was declared the greatest player of all time. he was one of only fifteen former players inducted into the International Rugby Hall of Fame including team-mate Barry John and JPR Williams. He is also the subject of a plaque in the Rugby Pathway of Fame in Rugby, Warwickshire. Sir Gareth Edwards was knighted in 2015.
