Fossils: A petrified wood slice with carbon/manganese oxide mineralisation Indonesian, Triassic 34cm Petrified wood is a fossil in which the organic remains have been replaced by minerals in the slow process of being replaced with stone. Special rare conditions must be met in order for the fallen tree trunk or stem to be transformed into fossil wood or petrified wood. In general, the fallen plants get buried in an environment free of oxygen which preserves the original plant structure and general appearance. The other conditions include a regular access to mineral rich water in contact with the tissues, replacing the organic plant structure with inorganic minerals. The end result is petrified wood - a plant, with its original basic structure in place, replaced by stone. Exotic minerals allow the red and green hues that can be seen in rarer specimens. Petrified wood can preserve the original structure of the stem in all its detail, down to the microscopic level. Structures such as tree rings and the various tissues are often observed features, although in petrified wood from Indonesia, tree rings are often less evident due to the lack of seasons in the tropical climate. Petrified wood from Indonesia covers several areas in Banten and also in some part of Mount Halimun Salak National Park. The following 13 lots during the petrification process over millions of years have been mineralised by various elements including manganese, iron and carbon, giving them their distinct and varied colours.

Sailing from the port of Xiamen (then known as Amoy) in February 1822 the vessel Tek Sing was bound for Jakarta, Indonesia laden with porcelain goods and 1600 Chinese emigrants. The captain decided to pass through the Gaspar Strait, between the Bangka-Belitung Islands, and ran aground on a reef. The vessel sank in about 100 feet of water. The next morning, February 7, an English East Indian captained by James Pearl, passing through the same waters, encountered debris and some survivors and managed to rescue about 190 of the latter. Fine condition.

Original vintage travel advertising poster Blue Star Line To South America. The Blue Star Line was owned by Vestey Brothers, Union Cold Storage Company and commenced operating their own ships in 1909, principally for the carriage of frozen produce initially from South America and China. In 1911 Blue Star Line was formed with Union Cold Storage as the parent company. Services to Australia and New Zealand were inaugurated in 1933. In1935 Blue Star Line purchased the goodwill and services (but no ships) of Frederick Leyland & Company and transferred some of its existing vessels to Leyland registered ownership. Leyland was a Blue Star Line subsidiary. Similarly, Blue Star Line purchased the Lamport & Holt Line in 1944 and the Booth Line in 1946. Subsequently a large number of inter-company transfers took place between the three companies, but these have been ignored except where names were changed. In 1952 Austasia Line was formed to operate services between Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia and Australia. Blue Star took over the North American Pacific Coast services from Donaldson Line in 1954. In 1957 Crusader Shipping Company formed in partnership with the New Zealand Shipping Company, Port Line and Shaw, Savill & Albion. Calmeda S.p.A di Nav, Cagliari was formed by Blue Star and Italian shippers in 1965. Passenger services to South America terminated in 1972, but cargo and container services continue. Many Blue Star cargo ships had limited passenger accommodation. Good condition, small creases and unnoticeable tears on margins, few spots on the image. Country: UK. Year: 1920s. Trubus Soedarsono (1924-1966), "La danseuse balinaise". Huile sur toile, s.b.d.53x67.5 cm. Référence:Trubus Soedarsono (né à Yogyakarta (Indes néerlandaises), le 23 avril 1926 - décédé en septembre 1966) est un sculpteur et peintre naturaliste indonésien connu pour son réalisme puissant. Dans le domaine politique, Trubus a été membre du Parti communiste indonésien (PKI). Issu d’une famille d’ouvriers agricoles, il n'a pas terminé l'école primaire(SD), faute de moyens financiers. Dès sa troisième année d'école élémentaire, Trubus a dessiné et fabriqué ses propres marionnettes. Il est par la suite devenu marionnettiste lors des cérémonies de circoncision de ses amis. Trubus a également Trubus Soedarsono (né à Yogyakarta (Indes néerlandaises) (1926-1966) est un peintre et sculpteur naturaliste indonésien connu pour son réalisme puissant. Il est aussi connu pour avoir été un peintre résistant indonésien. Durant l’occupation japonaise (1942-1945), il fut l’élève de Sindoesoedarsono Sudjojono, fondateur et théoricien du Persagi, et Affandi, grand maître historique de l’art moderne indonésien. Membre du SIM (Seniman Indonesia Muda), un groupe de peintres qui fournissait notamment des images de propagande anti-hollandaise saisissantes, il fut emprisonné en 1948 pour ses activités politiques. Il deviendra par la suite professeur à l’Académie indonésienne des Beaux-Arts de 1950 à 1960. Ses œuvres figurent dans les collections du Président Sukarno. Il meurt en 1966 lors de la purge qui succéda à la tentative ratée du coup d’Etat communiste de septembre. Ses œuvres font partie de celles qui intégreront le futur musée d’art moderne à Jakarta, le MACAN, qui ouvrira ses portes en novembre 2017.
