Newsmap. Monday, October 25, 1943..., 215th Week of the War, 97th Week of U.S. participation, 'Target Berlin', colour printed, 'bullseye' map of Europe, Russia and North Africa, centered on Berlin, with articles and photographs on verso, old folds, 1180 x 875 mm, together with another thirty-four Newsmap publications showing maps of Australasia, Russia, Philippines, Japan, The Pacific, Borneo & Thailand, Schouten Islands, Germany, Italy, Celebes islands (Indonesia) and Europe, with the verso showing propogranda, information, savings bonds, military insignia and uniforms and identification charts of allied and enemy equipment and machinary and news of the progress of the war on its various fronts, all approximately 1180 x 880 mm, various condition Newsmaps were published by the Special Service Division, Army Service Forces, War Department. The issues were prepared and distributed by the Army Orientation Course. One standard feature that appears on all maps is a short textual summary of key events titled The War Fronts, that includes descriptions of war-related events, mostly by geographic area, such as China, Russia, Tunisia, South Pacific, Aleutians, Wake, etc. Newsmaps were produced each Monday from 1942-1946 and usually featured a map of the current war fronts on one side and a poster about a war-related topic on the other. They were distributed by the Army and Navy to primarily military installations and government & civilian groups working on War Department projects. (35)
A large Chinese Islamic market porcelain dish, probably Swatow, 17th century, painted in overglaze green and black enamels, with talismanic inscriptions, red line border, approximately 41cm diameter Dishes similar to this were exported to Indonesia and are believed to have been commissioned by the powerful seventeenth-century Shia sultans of Aceh in northwest Sumatra, including Sultan Iskander Muda (1607-1636) (Canepa 2006, no. 40).

dating: 20th Century provenance: Indonesia, Flat, undulated, double-edged blade in pamor, slightly chiselled and grooved base; ukiran completely covered with silver foil (repaired break), portraying a deity, filigree mendak. Wooden warangka, nice, silver foil pendok, embossed with floral motifs. length 43.5 cm.
dating: circa 1900 provenance: Indonesia, Straight, single-and false-edged blade in fine pamor. Dark horn grip with silver foil ring-nut, embossed and engraved; wooden scabbard, completely covered with thin silver foil, decorated with horizontal engravings and chape decorated en suite with the hilt. length 42.5
