She studied at Edinburgh College of Art under Elizabeth Blackadder, John Houston and Ann Oram, graduating in 1986 with a degree in Drawing and Painting. Over the last 17 years her work has been exhibited extensively in the UK and abroad. She has also exhibited at the Royal Scottish Academy, and the Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolour. Her watercolours are held by important Scottish collections, such as Adam and Co plc, Brodies WS, Hewlett Packard, Ian Rankin and Miranda Harvey, Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland, Murrayfield Hospital, Paintings in Hospitals and Walter Scott and Partners, as well as in private collections worldwide. Jenny has lived in France and Indonesia and is now based in Edinburgh, where she is still creating and teaches drawing and watercolour painting.

Southern India. Profuse gilding. Metal hanging hardware.An extremely well preserved early 19th century hand decorated polychrome carved wooden statue of the Eastern divine spirit Garuda, a birdlike creature in Hindu, Buddhist and Jain mythology, described as the king of birds. Here he is depicted in his anthropomorphic form (man with wings and some bird features). Garuda is a part of the official state insignia of India, Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia and Indonesia. Southern India, possibly Kingdom of Mysore. Garuda is depicted with his hands posed to hold the reins of the chariot of Vishnu, for which he is the driver. He wears traditional ceremonial armor breastplate and is surmounted by an extravagant crown, all highlighted with profuse gilt decoration. Presented with a mounting metal chain. The Indonesia album includes a series of eighteen images of the Buddhist temples at Borobudur by Kassian Céphas, recognised as the first indigenous Indonesian photographer. The album of images of Malaysia, record stages from a two week journey undertaken in 1894 by Mitchell and his entourage. This journey was written up by Major McCallum as 'A Trip Across the Peninsula with H.E. the Governor' in a series of articles printed in the Singapore Free Press (a photocopy sold with the lot). Includes the travelling party at Tras (with Burra posing topless 'as a half tame Sakai chief'), groups with the Imam Prang and son, the mosque at Kuala Lipis, Kampong Budu (4, houses and locals), 'Sakais K. Lipis', 'Si Raman' stockade - Rebellion 1894', 'Chinese Trading Boat - Pahang River', and Johor (9, include portrait of Abu Bakar, Sultan of Johor, the Chinese theatre, the Sultan's army on parade). Commissioned into the 5th Bn DCLI at Bude Cornwall in 1909, proceeded to France at the outbreak of the WWI, one of the 'Old Contemptibles’. Captain 1916, MID Dec 1917. Brigade-Major in France in 1917. 1919 to India with the 2/D DCLI, appointed Adjutant Indian Auxiliary Force. Major in 1928. Same action at Bandsman Rendle of the 1st Bn DCLI at Wulverghens, 1914 in connection with the award of the V.C to Bandsman Rendle. Retired 1936. Thence by descent: Major Reginald Eric Lennard Wingate, C.B.E., TD, Devonshire Regiment 1939-1946. Eric Wingate (1921-1989), born Chittagong to Major Reginald Ramsay Wingate, DCLI. TA, Officer Cadet Corp, St Edward's School, Oxford. Commissioned into the 4th Bt. Devon Regt 1939. Intelligence Officer. Sniper Instructor. Tops marks in class. Saw action in France, Holland, Germany; Awarded the M.I.D. in NE Europe. After VE Day volunteered for posting in the Far East. Promoted to major and Sent to Ceylon, Singapore and finally Dep Asst. QMG (Movements) in N.E Indies (Indonesia) fighting the Japanese. Awarded the Military M.B.E for Gallantry. Demobbed in 1946. Joined Mansfield's & Co, part of the Ocean Transport Company of Liverpool. Stationed in Singapore and Penang. Made a director of the Mansfield's and Straits Steamship Group of Companies (now the Keppel Corp. of Singapore), then Chairman in 1964. On the board of numerous companies. Chairman of the Singapore Intl Chamber of Commerce. Retired to Dartmouth, Devon in 1974. Consultant to the Swire Group. National Committee member of the Mission to Seaman. Awarded the C.B.E for services to the British Community in Singapore. Dart Harbour Board Committee, town and District Councillor South Hams. Mayor elect for Dartmouth but did not take office due to death. Made an Honorary Citizen of Dartmouth.

Provenance: Surrendered to Major E. Wingate by a Commander of the Nippon Kiagun (Imperial Japanese Navy) in Indonesia at the end of hostilities.
