August 2021, in Kopie.In einem nur durch eine horizontal verlaufende Tischplatte näher definiertem Innenraum liegt eine, fast den ganzen Bildraum ausfüllende, Wanli-Platte mit typischer alternierender unterglasurblauer Malerei. Darauf den Teller reich füllend Trauben unterschiedlicher Couleur und Pfirsiche, vor denen sich eine Hummel wirkungsvoll abhebt. Früchte, speziell Trauben und Pfirsiche, sind in dem Werk des Antwerpener Malers besonders häufig zu finden. Sie finden Platz meist auf Porzellantellern, die aus China kommen, oder die von einer Delfter Manufaktur in Fayence im chinoisen Sinn gearbeitet wurden oder auch in Holzkörben, aus denen die Früchte hinausragen.Jacob van Hulsdonck (1582-1647) war ein flämischer Maler, der in Antwerpen geboren wurde. In Middleburg lernte er bei Ambrosius Bosschaert (1573-1621) das Malen von Stillleben, auf das er sich später spezialisieren sollte. In dieser Hafenstadt, die mit Amsterdam konkurrierte, gab es exotische Waren und Produkte im Überfluss, insbesondere chinesisches Porzellan, das ein wiederkehrendes Motiv in seinen Kompositionen wurde. Nach seiner Rückkehr nach Antwerpen trat Jacob van Hulsdonck 1608 der Malergilde bei und leitete von 1613 bis 1623 ein florierendes Atelier, das für seine raffinierten Stillleben mit Blumen und Früchten bekannt war. Seine Kompositionen, die er von Balthasar van der Alst (1593-1657) übernommen hatte, fanden bei seinem Schüler Isaak Soreau (1604-1644) und später bei Frans Snyders (1579-1657) einen großen Nachruhm.
