Hummel, Carl Maria Nikolaus -- Landschaft mit der Milseburg bei Kleinsassen in der Rhön.Öl auf festem Papier. 33,4 x 50,6 cm. Unten links signiert, datiert und bez. "C. Hummel. 1859. Milseburg bei Kleinsassen".Bei der Milseburg handelt es sich um einen Berg, unter dem der Legende nach der mit dem Teufel im Bunde gewesene Riese Mils liegt, der durch den Heiligen Gangolf besiegt worden war. Am Fuße dieses sagenumwobenen Berges entstand in Kleinsassen zur Mitte des 19. Jahrhunderts eine kleine Künstlerkolonie. Friedrich Preller d. J., Sohn von Carl Hummels Lehrer Preller d. Ä., verbrachte mit seinen Schülern des Düsseldorfer Malkastens und anderen Freunden den Sommer des Jahres 1858 in diesem beschaulichen Ort und schuf dort einige Ölstudien. Möglicherweise reiste Hummel auf Anregung von Preller d. J. das darauffolgende Jahr in das Künstlerdorf.Provenienz: Aus dem Nachlass des Künstlers (verso von Margarete Hummel in schwarzer Feder bez.
