* Dorothea Sharp [1874-1955]-A Summer's Day; two young girls walking through a cornfield:-signed Dorothea Sharp bottom leftoil on canvas76 x 50cm.* Provenance: With Arthur Howell, St. George's Gallery.Thence by family descent.* Biography.Dorothea Sharp was born in Dartford, Kent and trained at the Regent Street polytechnic under George Clausen and David Murray, and also in Paris. It was in Paris that she discovered Monet whose colour and light influenced her greatly. Dorothea visited St. Ives in 1920 and took a studio at Porthmeor and it was here she met her lifelong friend, the artist Marcella Smith. She became a member of the St. Ives Society of Artists. She held her first one woman show at the Connell Galleries in 1933 and exhibited regularly at the Royal Academy and the R.B.A.In the mid 1940s she returned to her Blomfield Road studios in London where she continued to paint and exhibit. Bottle of Royal Welsh Whisky from the Welsh Whisky Distillery, circa 1900, the label reading: 'As Supplies to HM the Queen and HRH the Prince of Wales' and 'It is distilled with the greatest possible care from malt only and is absolutely pure, connoisseurs pronounce it quite unique and as a wholesome stimulant it is very highly recommended', together with paperwork relating to Prince Charles' visit to South Wales in July, 1969, specifically letters from George Bennett and Co. Wine Merchants of Fishguard (the current vendor's father was a partner in this company and letters here are written directly to him, Mr Bennett Howell, from Colonel The Honorable Hanning Phillips, MBE) trying to organize a bottle of the Royal Welsh whisky being presented to Prince Charles during his investiture tour. Together with various newspaper cuttings about the tour and a photograph of a bottle of Royal Welsh whisky in box with card from George Bennett and Co. to Prince Charles. CONDITION REPORT: As detailed in previous lot, the letter detailing them being re-corked in 1952 applies, label present but one tear and chippings as expected with age, liquid level lower neck.
