Beadwork is good with occasional losses. Bows at the back are slightly soiled, hem has been shortened but could be let down again. A few small light brown stains to rear hem area - not immediately noticeable.

Fabric has pulled/puckered to base of zip right side. Very slight soiling to bodice edges. Inner silk lining hem has been raised by 1cm. Interior is clean and good, no problems. Back skirt panel - the chiffon has been replaced. It is not pleated like the rest of the dress. Jacket is good condition, one small spot stain.

Hem has been slightly lowered on dress. Outer zip fastening on dress is defective. The rear waistline needs re-stitching approx 5cm (minor). Inner corset has 2 rear darts widened, slip attached to the corset has been replaced in cream rayon at the front.

A fine Christian Dior couture point d'esprit cocktail dress, Spring-Summer, 1958, labelled and numbered 92442, with integral tulle corset, entirely covered in ruffled organza ribbons studded with rhinestones, the fabric by Pierre Brivet, bust 86cm, 34in, waist 66cm, 26in A similar model was also part of the Spring-Summer 1957 collection, and was reproduced in 'L'Officiel de la Mode', n°419-420, March 1957, pp.316-317, the model posed within a bird-cage. CONDITION REPORT: Good condition, tulle is slightly grey overall from storage. The 'point d'esprit' effect is created by the use of tiny pearlised bugle beads. The organza ruffled bands are good as is the general beading. The silver sequins held in place by miniscule glass beads are good, no obvious losses. Interior is clean and good. There is very slight yellowing to tulle at top of breast cups. Slight puckering to elasticated sides in places.

CONDITION REPORT: Jacket - slight fraying to cuff lining, gold braid is tarnished but overall good condition; dress - the bodice side seams have been let out and the hem has been lowered. Stains to ivory silk lining

Dress: faint perspiration stains at underarms (barely noticeable), hem needs re-stitching. The narrow hobble hem is heavily weighed around the circumference entirety with lead discs. Some seam pull to organza lining at hip dart (minor). Jacket: the flounced puff-effect hem has been altered, possibly to reduce fullness.

Dress: skirt side seams have been taken in to reduce fullness/puff-ball effect and could easily be reversed. Waistline was amended to fit original owner, looks like alterations done at time of purchase by the retailer. Waistband has been removed from separate petticoat.

This gown was reproduced in 'L'Officiel de la Mode', n°425-426 de 1957, p.266, featuring an elegant model with evening gloves. See also 'Dior', Thames & Hudson, p.159. CONDITION REPORT: Good condition, very fresh, slight seam-pull to rear left vertical waist seam. Zip needs re-tacking in place. Hem has been raised 2.5cm. Looks little worn.

A copy of a Vionnet beaded 'Aux Chevaux' cocktail dress, American, circa 1926, of black chiffon adorned with copper bugle beads, tabbed hem; together with a pair of unpicked later added sleeves, bust 97cm, 38in (3) CONDITION REPORT: Beading is generally good. One shoulder has been re-inforced by tacking the fabric and stitching in place, there are still 2 small holes in this area. The curved tops of the 'Octopus' hem - quite a few have wear, one has a tear. One top is torn at the rear hem also. Slight thinning in one place to edge of side closure. Curved area of beading to one hem tab is missing. There were later added sleeves which have been removed but they are edged in bugle beads which could be used to replace any losses on the dress.

A Charles James for Samuel Winston black velvet and chestnut taffeta cocktail dress, mid 1950s, labelled and also with hand written tape 'Brodericle', the separate velvet bodice with sweetheart neckline, laced thongs at the shoulders; the stiffened skirt embroidered, beaded, sequined and appliquéd with rose trails and bows, bust 81cm, 32in, waist 56cm, 22in (2) In 1955, Samuel Winston went into business with the designer Charles James, to produce a line of his clothes but this arrangement ended badly when James accused the firm of using his designs in their other divisions. CONDITION REPORT: Good condition, no problems. Bodice: looks little worn, ivory satin lining has discoloured from ivory to gold, velvet is deep black. Skirt: likewise is good condition, barely visible soil mark to rear hem.

A Christian Dior New York gold lamé and coloured tweed cocktail ensemble, mid 1960s, labelled, comprising: jacket and skirt with lamé facings, matching sleeveless bodice with gilt metal bauble buttons and a turban-like hat, bust 86cm, 34in, waist 64cm, 25in (4) Provenance: Purchased from the estate of the actress Rosalind Russell in the late 1970s. CONDITION REPORT: Good condition. Bodice: organza bodice lining has numerous repaired splits (20x5cm L-shaped repair; 4cm repair; 8cm and 8x7cm), exterior is shiny and good. Bodice zip is broken. Jacket: perspiration stains at underarms to lining, exterior is good. Skirt: hem has been lowered by 6cm and lining shortened, zip has been replaced. Hat: tweed is faded in comparison to suit but not immediately noticeable.

Skirt has been taken in at most of the vertical seams and hem has been raised. Belt - leather backing is worn.

A Christian Dior couture black faille cocktail dress, 'Fuseau' (Spindle) line, Autumn-Winter, 1957, un-labelled, probably Patron Originale, with silk covered tulle inner corset, cross over bodice accented with three silk roses, full skirt with layered tulle petticoats, bust 92cm, 36in, waist 71cm, 28in The Metropolitan Museum collection has an identical model in red, accession no. 2009.300.7223. This model is from Dior's last line before his death. There is a full page sketch by Bouché showing this model in 'Dior in Vogue' by Brigid Keenan, p.173. At the time, Vogue described the dress as 'the most provocative dress of the season'. This design was featured in 'L'Officiel de la Mode', September 1957 p.287. CONDITION REPORT: Good condition, very fresh appearance. Looks little worn. Hem has been raised by 2cm. Extra panel of rayon has been added to corset closure to widen. Dress itself is unaltered. Beautifully couture finished throughout. It's either couture unlabelled or very top quality Patron Originale.

A Jacques Griffe couture black satin cocktail dress, circa 1960, with woven thumb-print label, with integral boned taffeta corset the V-neckline edged with satin plumes, bell-shaped skirt with weighted hem, bust 92cm, 36in CONDITION REPORT: Lacking some silk feathers to each shoulder - revealing tulle base, mainly shoulder area. Satin is generally good, the odd minor scuff. Hem has been raised by 3 1/2cm/1 1/4in

A gold lamé cocoon-like opera cape, mid 1920s, woven with orientally inspired foliate motifs, lined in gold satin, with Indian filigree metal bell to rear neck, the front sleeve openings adorned with large metal thread tassels; together with an ivory velvet cocktail dress with shirred swag to one hip, c.1922, bust 97cm, 38in (2) CONDITION REPORT: Cape is generally good condition, gold lamé has faded to silver in places, tassels are good. The star motif and belt centre back may be later added. The dress has spot stain near front neck opening, perspiration stains at underarms, gold lining is good - I suspect may have been replaced in the 1930s. Hem isn't well sewn, it has a deep return and may originally have been longer.
