1983 Austin Metro Vanden Plas Transmission: manualMileage:19750The Metro is a supermini car, later, a city car that was produced by British Leyland and later, the Rover Group from 1980 to 1998. It was launched in 1980 as the Austin Mini Metro. It was intended to complement and eventually replace the Mini and was developed under the codename LC8. The Metro was named by What Car magazine as 'Car of The Year' 1983 as an MG, and again as the Rover Metro in 1991. During its 18-year lifespan the Metro wore many names; Austin Metro, MG Metro and Rover Metro. It was rebadged as the Rover 100 series in December 1994.First registered on 3rd March 1983 and having just celebrated its 40th birthday, this incredible time warp example has covered a mere 19,750 miles from new. Having been part of the James Hull collection, our vendor purchased the car due to the unique nature of the Vanden Plas specification which brought a plush luxury finish to what is usually a basic small family hatchback, much like the Radford minis. The 'Raschelle' woven velvet upholstery is in incredible condition and all plastics are unsurprisingly as new, the car on the whole feels every bit of its low mileage and collector status. Powered by the 'A' series 1275cc 60bhp engine with a four-speed all-synchromesh manual gearbox, this example is a real delight and no slouch either!Guide Price £5,000 - £7,000

Lot 371

In the mid-nineties, this was Radford's demonstrator and we can't help but wonder how many of London's 'bright young things' were whisked around Mayfair in a bid to make a sale.Brand new Mini Sprite, L169 WLP, finished in black, was originally supplied by Marrits of Amersham in March 1994 to Harold Radford (Coachbuilders) and became one of two demonstrators for their re-introduced Mini de Ville which had been incredibly trendy in the mid-1960sTowards the end of 1994, an order was received from a Mr J Wilmot-Smith and it was agreed that L169 WLP, by now a second hand demonstrator with 1,724 miles on the clock would form the donor car and it was duly sold to him for £4,600Within the file there is a copy of the three-page specification selected by Mr Wilmot-Smith and, there is obviously too much to list here, but highlights include a fabulous interior trim spec, an engine upgrade to 85bhp, 13” Rimstar wheels and the car was painted in ‘Bentley Racing Green’, the colour it wears todayOur vendor has owned this rather special Mini for a couple of years and the indicated mileage is 19,218 which we assume is from new. The car’s condition remains impressive and it will benefit from a fresh MOT prior to the saleThose of us who were tazzing about in Minis in the late sixties remember the cachet of Radford’s Mini de Ville and the associated pop star and Carnaby Street culture and it’s a shame that its reincarnation in 1994 didn’t really work, however, this is still a special little car and a part of Mini history.
