Queen’s Park Rangers FC: a Merchant Navy prisoner-of-war tapestry dated 1942-43, bearing the Merchant Navy crest and inscribed QUEENS P. RANGERS, 1942-43, LEAGUE, WINNERS, CUP, FINALISTS, framed & glazed, 45 by 41cm., 17 3/4 by 16in. This tapestry was made by Merchant Navy seamen at Milag Nord POW camp. They formed two teams, Newcastle United and QPR, and played each other regularly to keep spirits up. They even played a ‘Cup final’ every year. This continued for a period of four years.
An Inter. Corps Representative Football Match programme featuring the Busby Babes trio of Duncan Edwards, Eddie Coleman and David Pegg, Royal Army Ordnance Corps v Royal Corp of Signals, played at the R.A.O.C. Sports Ground, undated. Duncan Edwards began his compulsory two year stint of National Service after returning from England’s 1955 end of season continental tour. He was allowed to leave his station to play for Manchester United, and played a large number of army games as well. In one season he played nearly 100 matches as a consequence. His Busby Babes team-mates Coleman and Pegg were playing for the opposition, the Royal Corps of Signals, on this day. All of Edwards’s Ordnance Corps team-mates were registered players at Football League clubs, F. Reed (Charlton), R. Morris (Crewe), F. Ball (Coventry), Neale & T Smith & Walmsley (Birmingham), W. Tulip (Newcastle), C. Skinner & K Simcoe (Forest) and F. Kerrigan (Swansea).

A 15ct. gold unofficial 1910 F.A. Cup winner’s medal, the obverse inscribed 1910, the reverse inscribed ENGLISH CUP, WON BY, N.U.F.C., A.S.M. DUNCAN. Although the above medal is not an ‘official’ F.A.Cup winner’s medal, as Duncan did not play in the final tie, it must be assumed that the medal was presented to him by the Newcastle United to commemorate the club’s first-ever F.A.Cup trophy when the Magpies defeated Barnsley 2-0 in the replay played at Goodison Park on 28th April 1910 before 69000 spectators, Shepherd scoring both of United’s goals
Jimmy Nelson’s Scotland international cap from the ‘Wembley Wizards’ match v England season 1927-28, inscribed S V E, 1927-28. James Nelson was born in Greenock 7th January 1901 but grew up in Belfast. The uncompromising right-back who joined Cardiff City from Belfast Crusaders in 1921 was a member of the Bluebirds legendary 1927 F.A. Cup winning team. The press had some fun with this at the time describing Nelson as a Scot who came from Ireland to win an English Cup winner’s medal for a Welsh club. He also won four Scotland international caps including the present example awarded for the Wembley Wizard’s famous 5-1 victory over England in 1928. Nelson later played for Newcastle United where he won a second Cup winner’s medal in 1932.
