A Melba Bone China part Tea Service, all decorated in the Art Deco manner with stylised foliage in shades of green and lemon with black detail on a white ground, comprises six Cups and Saucers, Cream Jug, Sugar Bowl, six Tea Plates and a Bread and Butter Plate (conditions vary, two cups with hairline cracks etc)
MELBA NELLIE: (1861-1931) Australian Soprano. Vintage signed 6.5 x 11 photograph, an unusual image of the soprano in a half length pose. The soft focus image is by noted photographer Arnold Genthe of New York and signed by him at the base of the image. Signed by Melba in dark fountain pen ink to the lower photographer`s mount and dated 1918 in her hand. * 1979/80 official England cricket tour signed team photograph to Australia and India – scarce colour photograph on the original photographers mount (Melba Studios Sydney) complete with legend below and signed to each border in ink by entire squad of 22 to include a Brearley, Bairstow, Larkins, Gooch, Gower, Botham, Willis, Barrington et al overall 11.5" x 13.5" – ex Ken Barrington collection.
The trophy won by Lester Piggott for winning the Grand Criterium on `Breton` at Longchamp in 1969, in the form of a hallmarked English silver salver by Asprey of London, inscribed "BRETON", GRAND CRITERIUM, 1969, diameter 36cm., 14in. Lester won the Grand Criterium (now re-named the Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere) on three occasions between 1967 and 1970 on Sir Ivor, Breton and My Swallow. This trophy is for Breton`s victory, who was France`s top two-year-old of 1969. Breton was by the 1963 Derby winner Relko out of La Melba. He also won the Prix de la Salamandre. The colt was owned by P. Butler and trained by Mick Bartholomew at Chantilly.
