MELBA NELLIE: (1861-1931) Australian soprano. A.L.S., Nellie Melba, to the recto and verso of the singer's personal printed oblong 12mo Visiting Card, featuring her printed name ('Madame Melba') to the centre, n.p., n.d., to Miss. Lordeno, in French. Melba states that her correspondent's good and affectionate congratulations have touched her, and continues 'Croyez bien que je suis excessivement sensible a l'empressement que vous avez bien voulu mettre a me les adresser si cordialement. C'est du fond du coeur que je vous envois mes remerciements avec l'expression toujours renouvelee de ma vive reconnaissance pour ce que vous avez fait pour moi' (Translation: 'Believe me, I am excessively sensitive to the eagerness you were good enough to show in addressing them to me so cordially. It is from the bottom of my heart that I send you my thanks with the ever-renewed expression of my deep gratitude for what you have done for me'). A charming letter and quite scarce in this form.
