Ricercata prima edizione del celeberrimo ricettario di Escoffier, noto come "cuoco dei re, re dei cuochi", opera fondamentale della gastronomia francese, e frutto di una lunga e trionfale carriera al Savoy e al Carlton di Londra, al Grand Hotel di Roma, al Ritz di Parigi. Comprende oltre 5000 ricette, suddivise in 17 capitoli, e destinate a cuochi professionisti in grandi ristoranti o nelle grandes maisons, con 250 differenti salse, e 223 modi diversi di preparare le uova. MELBA NELLIE: (1861-1931) Australian Soprano. A good vintage signed postcard photograph depicting the singer kneeling in a full length pose at a small table. Signed in bold black fountain pen ink with her name alone to a clear area at the base of the image. Some extremely minor, light silvering to the image, VG. £120-150

MELBA NELLIE: (1861-1931) Australian Soprano. A.L.S., Nellie Melba, one page, 8vo, Paris, n.d. (15th April 1920), to Eric Alldenbry (?), on the printed stationery of the Hotel Ritz. Melba announces 'You arrive & I leave - distressing - so sorry' and continues to provide her address in Westminster, adding that she hopes to see her correspondent there often. Melba further enquires about a General Gordon (?), writing 'Is it true he has lost his eye? Too sad'. With blank integral leaf. Accompanied by the original envelope hand addressed by Melba. VG

Kennerley Rumford, Jelly d'Aranyi (A.M.Q.S.), Ben Davies (A.M.Q.S.), Albert Coates (A.M.Q.S.), Eugene Goossens (a good A.M.Q.S. from Phantasy Quartet, annotated Feroce, November 1920), Luisa Tetrazzini, Mrs. Patrick Campbell, Daniel Melsa (A.M.Q.S.), Jan Kubelik (A.M.Q.S.), Marie Hall (A.M.Q.S.), John Coates (A.Q.S.), Fanny Davies (A.Q.S. also incorporating an A.M.Q.S.), Maurice D'Oisly (A.M.Q.S.), Ruth Vincent, Robert Radford, Olga Nethersole, Amelita Galli-Curci, Nellie Melba, Maurice Moscovitch, Lilian Braithwaite, Florence Austral, Agnes Nicholls Harty (A.Q.S.), Evie Greene, Frank R. The majority are bold fountain pen ink examples, and a couple bear inscriptions to the singer Edna Thornton (or her brother). Together with a small selection of A.Ls.S. and signed programmes etc., relating to Edna Thornton including Elizabeth Asquith (Princess Bibesco), thanking her for taking part in an opera (written on the printed stationery of 10 Downing Street, 9th November 1914), Edward W. Wallington (Private Secretary to Queen Mary) thanking her, on behalf of the Prince and Princess of Wales, for participating in a concert at the Royal Albert Hall and commenting 'The concert was generally admitted to be one of the best ever given in London' (written on the printed stationery of Marlborough House, 3rd June 1908), programmes signed by Hans Richter and others. The letters with some overall dust staining and the programmes with extensive tears, crudely repaired with sellotape and causing extensive staining (only P to FR), the album VG, 5 + album Edna Thornton (1875-1964) English Contralto who sang at Covent Garden 1905-10 and 1919-23.
