AUTOGRAPH ALBUM Barningham (Julia, of Bowdon and Alderley Edge, Cheshire, Compiler) 8vo autograph album (190 x 155mm), approx. 1890-1912, including WINSTON CHURCHILL, ERNEST SHACKLETON AND EDWARD ELGAR; early 20th century soft red morocco, with 'Album' in gilt to upper cover (rubbed), ink and pencil on coloured paper leaves (mainly rectos), a.e.g. Many signatures (NOT the three above mentioned) embellished by autograph sketches, doodles, verse, musical scores, quotations, musings, etc.; among the illustrious Edwardian personalities (dinner guests?) are politicians, musicians, actors/actresses and sportsmen. 'Winton S. Churchill' in clear pencil just below David Lloyd George's autograph of July 24th 1902. Other significant contributors: cricketers Ranjitsinhji, C.B. Fry, F. Stanley Jackson; from theatre Ellen Terry, J. Forbes-Robertson, Herbert Beerbohm Tree, Marie Tempest, and Nellie Melba; politicians Violet Bonham Carter, Henry Campbell-Bannerman, Megan Lloyd George; musicians Fritz Kreisler, Joseph Joachim (some German entries), plus many more. Upper hinge split and with backstrip - but not the block - detached from spine. With small souvenir oil sketch of alpine scenery on board and one portrait photograph loosely inserted. A Melba Ware shire horse, in dapple grey, height 28cm, a saddled donkey 'Neddy' and a further donkey figure (af). CONDITION REPORT: The smallest donkey has a break to the back leg and to one ear. The saddled donkey and the shire horse both have crazing throughout and the shire horse has breaks to the leather harness.
