Cheiro (pseudonym, i.e. Count Louis Hamon). An album of 88 mounted and five loose photographs of palm prints on smoked paper, produced for Cheiro's Language of the Hand, by Jehaugnier D. Cola, 1890s, all the prints initialled JDC in the negative and most with the signature in the negative of the person whose palm is illustrated, some of the photographs dated variously between 1894 and 1899, hands depicted include 'The Mahatma', Arthur Sullivan (6 November 1894), Annie Besant (22 July 1894), Kismet, Stopford Brooke (20 June 1894), Nellie Melba, Austen Chamberlain, Swami Vivekananda, Edwin Arnold, Sarah Grand, John Lubbock, William T. Stead, Herbert & Maud Beerbohm Tree, Russell of Killoween, plus those of Cola and Cheiro, photographs mostly 22 x 19cm but some smaller and mounted one, two or three to a page and back to back throughout, a few leaves detached, all edges gilt, contemporary padded morocco, rubbed and some wear and loss at foot of spine, 4to (34 x 27cm) Provenance: Acquired directly by the owner from Charles H. van Horne prior to a sale of his collection of chiromancy books sold by Sothebys, New York, 10 December 1993, lot 652. This collection of 31 titles in thirty-five volumes was purchased by Princeton University Library. (1)
A selection of Beswick birds and wild animals to include two Kingfishers, a kestrel , a Jay and further small British garden birds with a lion and lioness along with a Melba Ware rhinoceros and wilder beast and a Royal Dux elephant (17) CONDITION REPORT: Elephant- tusks restored. Rhino and wilderbeast- crazed extensively. Remaining appear in good condition.

Condition is generally VG+ to Ex+.

A tray of Beswick shire horse (grey, front foot raised), a Melba Ware panda and shire horse, one further shire horse and a continental figure of a horse and jockey CONDITION REPORT: Melba ware panda crazed but good. Beswick figure with loss to horses ear. One shire horse with a small chip to the hoof. Otherwise generally in good order.

A Melba Gramophone on stand, by the Gramophone & Typewriter Ltd, with brass Morning Glory horn (early, Industria pattern), 12-inch yielding turntable on cupped spindle, triple-spring bevel-drive motor, G & T Exhibition soundbox and ebonised case with brass repoussé panels and corner columns and ivorine Angel plaque, on stand with gilt and green stained incised Art Nouveau motifs, frieze drawer with original drop handle, Angel plaque and internal divisions for record storage (lacking lion's mask corner mounts) -- the stand 39¾ in high, the horn 22½ in diam, circa 1904 Good overall condition; some (old) worm infestation in plinth at back of gramophone case. Four modern lions mask handles are present, only one attached. (Drawer handle is original). Nickel dull, brass panels and horn have been polished in the past, but not for many years.
