BUONARROTI PHILIPPE: (1761-1837) Italian-born French Revolutionary and Writer. Mostly active in Corsica. His `History of Babeuf's Conspiracy of Equals' (1828) became a bible for revolutionaries, inspiring leftists such as Marx. Buonarroti took part in the 1812 conspiracy of General Malet against Napoleon. D.S., Buonarroti, one page, folio, Oneglia, 16th May 1794, to surgeon Carrelet, in French. The partially printed document bears an unusual heading `Freedom, Equality, Vertue - All tyrans should die´, Buonarroti acting as National Commissair in charge of National security, police and administration in the Oneglia and Loano territories and in `all countries conquered by the army of the French republic beyond Menton´. Carrelet has been called to confirm his denounce, although Buonarroti points out `his absence (in hospital) could harm our wounded brothers for the defense of Freedom.´ further stating `..according to the decree issued by the people representatives Saliceti and Robespierre.´ With blank integral leaf. Together with Alexandre Andryane (1797-1863) French Politician. A.L.S., A. Andryane, one page, 4to, Paris, 14th October 1832, to Louvet, a lawyer, in French. With address to the verso. VG £500-600Alexandre Andryane entered the secret society `Sublimes Maitres Parfaits´ after knowing Buonarroti. Arrested in Milan in possession of Buonarroti´s documents intended to be given to the Carbonari, he was first sentenced to death, and later commuted by the Austrian Emperor to perpetuity incarceration in the Spielberg fortress.
