PAGET HENRY: (1768-1854) 1st Marquess of Anglesey. British Field Marshal, led the spectacular charge of the British heavy cavalry against Comte d'Erlon's column at the Battle of Waterloo, 18th June 1815. A.L.S., Uxbridge Lt. Gl., as Earl of Uxbridge, two pages, 4to, Uxbridge House, 14th April 1815, to Sir Willoughby Gordon. Paget writes, in full, 'Being ordered to the Continent to take Command of the Cavalry under the orders of Field Marshall (sic) the Duke of Wellington, I beg to represent the very great advantage it would be to me (who must necessarily have a considerable Staff) to obtain an order for a Spring Waggon & a light Forge Waggon upon the most approved construction with Horses & Drivers to be attached to my Quarters'. With blank integral leaf. A letter of good content written almost two months to the day before the Battle of Waterloo. VG Willoughby Gordon (1772-1851) British General, Quartermaster-General to the Forces. Duke of Wellington (1769-1852) Anglo-Irish Field Marshal & British Prime Minister 1828-30, 1834. Defeated Napoleon at the Battle of Waterloo. Paget distinguished himself on many occasions during the Battle of Waterloo and had at least eight horses shot from under him. At the end of the battle, while riding alongside Wellington, Paget's right leg was hit by grapeshot, leading to the famous exchange as he declared “By God, sir, I've lost my leg!” to which Wellington replied “By God, sir, so you have!”

COMMEMORATIVE MEDALS, British Historical Medals, Manchester Grammar School, Charles Lawson (1728-1807), Usher, 1749, and Headmaster, 1764-1807, Glazed Frosted Silver Prize Medal (1847), by William Wyon, bust of Lawson three-quarters right in clerical jacket, rev PALMAM QUI MERUIT FERAT within wreath, 56.5mm, glazing with silver border (BDM VI 684). An un-named specimen, virtually mint state, rare. After a portrait by William Marshall Craig and engraved by James Heath. At the school Lawson was referred to as “Millgate’s flogging Turk”, he always spoke to boys in the third person beginning with the phrase ‘Psha, blockhead’. He was however exceedingly caring and the School continued to flourish.
A model of a conceptual Thames pumping engine, built by the late Mr Brian Marshall of Chichester, the main hot air engine is supported on a raised platform with reeded columns, engine with side rods, gear box, spoked flywheel and beam with Watt s parallel action driving a vertical water pump, twin cylinders, matching pair of chimneys above twin gas fired burners, mounted on a polished oak plinth measuring 35cm x 25cm, 26cm high overall.

J. ANTHONY WILLS, OIL ON MASONITE, PORTRAIT OF FRED J. FISHER, 46" X 35": Signed in the lower left corner and framed. James Anthony Wills was born in 1912 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He has painted cabinet members including George C. Marshall, Secretary of Defense, C. E. Wilson, Secretary of Defense, and Henry Kissinger, Secretary of State. His greater works are his long list of Presidential Portraits. He has painted Harry Truman, Dwight D. Eisenhower, and Richard Nixon. Along the stairway to the East Room hang the portraits of 20th century Presidents.
A magnificent Scottish Victorian 15ct gold and citrine mounted Highlanders Regalia by James and Walter Marshall, Edinburgh 1865, comprising; A Dirk, with carved and stained Celtic knot wood grip, large thistle shaped multi-faceted Cairngorm pommel, single fullered plain steel 28cm (11") blade. The leather scabbard with matching knife and fork, both with Cairngorm thistle pommels. All pieces heavily strapped in hallmarked 15ct gold. Approximately 44.5cm (17 1/2" ) long. A Skean Dhu, with a shallow carved plain grip, a plain steel 10cm (4") single fullered blade, the pommel set with faceted Cairngorm, 15ct gold strapwork. Approximately 17cm (6 1/2" ) in length. A Belt Buckle, shield shaped, in 15ct gold. The central engraved quartered coat of arms within engraved borders. Total approximate weight 86.5gms. 9.7cm x 7.3cm ( 7/8" x 2 5/8"). A Powder Horn, of ornamental dress form, the flattened horn shape set with a central large oval multi-faceted Cairngorm in elaborate 15ct gold mount. The top set with a faceted lozenge Cairngorm set into an elaborate fretwork gold setting. The horn flask point set with a thistle-shaped Cairngorm stone in a heavy gold mount. The flask with two circular chain mounting points. No chain. Approximately 30cm (12" ) in length. James and Walter Marshall of Edinburgh were renowned craftsmen of fine quality Highland Regalia in the 19th Century.
