See Marshall, F.H., Catalogue of the Finger Rings Greek, Etruscan & Roman in the Department of Antiquities British Museum, Oxford, 1968, similar specimens nn.1439-1440.18.90 grams, 32.05mm overall, 23.43mm internal diameter (approximate size British Z+1, USA 12 3/4, Europe 29.99, Japan 28) (1 1/4"). Property of an East Anglian collector; formerly acquired on the European art market in the 1990s. Serapis, an Egyptian-Greek syncretic god designed to appeal to the largest possible majority, was often represented as a symbol of religious unity of the official Graeco-Roman pantheon, and therefore as symbol of unity for the Empire. Serapis is a historically verified, deliberately planned religious synthesis, commissioned by Ptolemy I (323-283 BC), and was kept and spread by the Romans. Serapis worship remained popular until the advent of Christianity, with whom he competed during the age of the Illyrian emperors. Fine condition, worn. A large wearable size.

Keith Reynolds (American, B. 1929) "Missionary Packet Morning Star" Signed lower right. Original Oil painting on Canvas Board. Provenance: Collection of James A. Helzer (1946-2008), Founder of Unicover Corporation. This is the original painting which appeared on the Republic of the Marshall Islands 29c Missionary Packet Morning Star stamp issued June 24, 1993. "The long looked for missionary ship was a thing of life and beauty, adorned with nearly her full complement of snow-white sails, and sitting so daintily upon the water." This account comes from Rev. E. Bond's meeting with the Morning Star, en route to the Marshall Islands to fulfill the mission for which it was built. In August 1856, just eight months earlier, an appeal had been made to the American Board for a missionary packet. To finance this endeavor, the children of the United States were invited to take a ten-cent share of joint ownership in the new vessel. The project met with great enthusiasm and success. Within three months, the Morning Star was completed and on its way to spread Christianity to the islands of the Pacific. Overall Size: 16 x 20 in. Unframed. (B14318)
Keith Reynolds (American, B. 1929) "British Merchantman Britannia" Signed lower right. Original Oil painting on Canvas Board. Provenance: Collection of James A. Helzer (1946-2008), Founder of Unicover Corporation. This is the original painting which appeared on the Republic of the Marshall Islands 15c British Merchantman Britannia stamp issued June 24, 1993. In September 1797, the handsome "merchantman" ship Britannia set sail for China. While en route, Ailinglapalap and Kili of the Marshall Islands were sighted. Captain Thomas Denet gave the order to dock, and according to the ship's records, the crew carried on trade with the friendly Marshallese. Breadfruit, mats and skirts were among the goods that changed hands during the Britannia's visit. Though this was an amiable encounter, merchantman ships, especially those which ventured to the Far East, were typically fitted with armament as a safeguard against attack. The Britannia was no exception, for this teakwood craft of over 500 tons is listed as having carried 12 guns. Image Size: 16 x 18.25 in. Overall Size: 16 x 20 in. Unframed. (B14263)
Brian Sanders (British, B. 1937) "Rangoon Falls to Japanese Forces" Original Oil painting on Canvas. Provenance: Collection of James A. Helzer (1946-2008), Founder of Unicover Corporation. This painting is the original painting which was published on the Fleetwood First Day Cover for the Marshall Islands 50c Rangoon Falls to Japanese 1942 stamp issued March 8, 1992. The Japanese high command saw Burma as a possible gateway to India and also intended to close the Burma Road, used to supply Chinese General Chiang Kai-shek's armies. In January of 1942, the Japanese 15th Army moved into Burma from Thailand and by February 23 threatened Rangoon. The poorly supplied ABDA (American, British, Dutch and Australian) forces fought valiantly as long as possible, American General Joseph Stilwell arrived with reinforcements from Kai-shek's 5th and 6th armies, but to no avail. On March 6, Allied forces retreated from Rangoon under the supervision of British General Harold Alexander, initiating a scorched earth policy as they left. Two days later, Japanese troops entered the evacuated city. Size: 19.75 x 18.25 in. Unframed. (B13638)
Brian Sanders (British, B. 1937) "Battle of Leyte Gulf" Oil painting on Masonite. Artist notes in margins. . Provenance: Collection of James A. Helzer (1946-2008), Founder of Unicover Corporation. This is the original painting which appeared on the Republic of the Marshall Islands 52c Battle of Leyte Gulf 1944 stamp issued October 24, 1994. "Strike! Repeat! Strike! Good Luck!" On October 24, 1944, Admiral William Halsey's powerful command was broadcast over loudspeakers in nearly one hundred Allied warships. Encouraged by the blow that had been dealt to Japan during the successful invasion at Peleliu, Halsey declared that area of the Pacific "wide open" and moved the scheduled invasion of Leyte up two months. What transpired at Leyte Gulf could actually be described as a miniature, four-day war. Fought in three dimensions -- land, sea, and air -- the battle saw the introduction of kamikaze suicide planes and the sinking of four Japanese aircraft carriers. Most of Japan's battleships also were destroyed, including Admiral Nishimura's Yamashiro, the ship on which he lost his life. Image Size: 13.5 x 16.5 in. Overall Size: 17.5 x 20.5 in. Unframed. (B14840)
Brian Sanders (British, B. 1937) "Brederode" Signed lower right. Original Oil painting on Masonite. Provenance: Collection of James A. Helzer (1946-2008), Founder of Unicover Corporation. This painting is the original painting which was published on the Republic of the Marshall Islands History's Greatest Fighting Ships sheetlet issued December 1, 1998. The 17th century Dutch flagship Brederode was built using the most advanced technology of the day, some borrowed from the English following their victory over the Armada. The speedy, square-rigged man-of-war boasted 54 guns and was the largest Dutch ship of the period. Image Size: 10.5 x 13 in. Overall Size: 14.5 x 17 in. Unframed. (B15850)
David K. Stone (American, 1922 - 2001) "German Invasion" Signed lower right. Original Oil painting on Masonite. Provenance: Collection of James A. Helzer (1946-2008), Founder of Unicover Corporation. This painting is the original painting which appeared on the Republic of the Marshall Islands 30? Invasion of Russia 1941 stamp issued June 22, 1991. Ever the master of betrayal, Adolf Hitler turned his troops against the Soviet Union -- a former ally -- on June 22, 1941. With all the swiftness and surprise that had become a German trademark, some three million men poured across the border and cut deeply into the heart of the mighty Red Army. By the day's end, LVI Panzer Corps under General Erich von Manstein had cut one hundred miles into northern Russia while invading armies in other parts of the Soviet Union experienced similar victories. To Hitler and his generals, this first day would be a jubilant one, but the elation was short-lived. As with Napoleon I before him, Hitler's invasion of Russia would be the beginning of the end. Image Size: 19.5 x 23.75 in. Overall Size: 24 x 26.75 in. Unframed. (B12733)
David K. Stone (American, 1922 - 2001) "German Tanks Approaching Moscow" Signed lower right. Original Oil painting on Masonite. Provenance: Collection of James A. Helzer (1946-2008), Founder of Unicover Corporation. This painting is the original painting which appeared on the Republic of the Marshall Islands 29c Siege of Moscow 1941 stamp issued October 2, 1991. Adolf Hitler viewed Operation Barbarossa -- the invasion of Russia launched in June 1940 -- as a tremendous success. Made overconfident and enticed by the impressive early victories, Hitler on October 2, 1941 turned his armies toward Moscow. The Wehrmacht made rapid progress at the start, but in the final days of October, the rains came. Mud mired down the army. Then, when the snow began to fall, the Germans lacking winter uniforms, perished by the thousands. Finally in early November, a salient of Germans broke through to see the spires of the Kremlin rising in the distance, which would be the closest they would come to the city. The Red Army fought harder as the weather grew worse and Hitler's grand plan died in the snow along with his troops. Image Size: 16.25 x 23.75 in. Overall Size: 23.75 x 26.75 in. Unframed. (B12812)
David K. Stone (American, 1922 - 2001) "HMS Rockingham" Signed lower right. Original Oil painting on Masonite. Provenance: Collection of James A. Helzer (1946-2008), Founder of Unicover Corporation. This painting is the original painting which appeared on the Republic of the Marshall Islands 45c HMS Rockingham ex-USS Swasey stamp issued September 3, 1990. In late November 1940, the USS Swasey bashed through the rough winter seas on her way to Halifax, Nova Scotia, where she would be boarded by British crews and recommissioned the HMS Rockingham. One of the United States destroyers to be transferred to Great Britain, HMS Rockingham was used for training in December 1943. Depicted here in British camouflage of light green and blue, British Royal Navy colors fly from her main mast while she drops depth charges from her stern to combat the dreaded "Sea Wolves" -- the German U-boats. After a career of fighting the enemy and helping to train the armed forces of Great Britain, the HMS Rockingham struck a mine and sank off Aberdeen, Scotland, on September 27, 1944. Image Size: 14.75 x 23.75 in. Overall Size: 23.75 x 27 in. Unframed. (B12585)
Hodges Soileau (American, B. 1943) "Cochise - Great American Indian Chief" Signed lower left. Original Oil painting on Paper. Provenance: Collection of James A. Helzer (1946-2008), Founder of Unicover Corporation. This painting is the original painting which appeared on the Republic of the Marshall Islands 60c Cochise stamp issued February 1, 1999. One of the best known leaders of the Chiricahua Apaches was Cochise, described by a white friend as "six feet tall and straight as an arrow." From his youth Cochise was a close associate of his father-in-law Mangas Coloradas, and like Mangas he was friendly with Anglo-Americans until he was betrayed in February 1861. A child had been kidnapped from a ranch near Apache Pass. Lieutenant George Bascom suspected Cochise and ordered him to come in for questioning. Cochise complied, believing the soldiers knew as he did that a band of Coyoteros had kidnapped the boy, and that the Chiricahuas had nothing to do with it. Bascom informed Cochise that he was under arrest, to be held as hostage for return of the child. Cochise managed to escape. From that day he became an enemy of the whites, joining Mangas in numerous raids and leading his warriors in the famed ambush of the California Volunteers in Apache Pass. Other targets were stagecoaches and mail carriers. One day the mail contractor, Tom Jeffords, boldly rode into Cochise's camp and asked for a personal treaty. Cochise was so impressed by the man's courage that he honored the request. After that, mail carriers were never molested, and Jeffords and Cochise became close friends. In 1872 when the government sought to pacify the Chiricahuas by assigning them a reservation in their Dragoon Mountains homeland, Cochise agreed provided that Jeffords was appointed agent. After this, Cochise remained a man of peace until his death, June 8, 1874. Image Size: 14.5 x 11.25 in. Overall Size: 22.25 x 18.25 in. Unframed. (B16254)

Used extensively in the Korean War, the F-86 racked up more than 800 kills by war's end. Image Size: 16.5 x 14 in. Overall Size: 18 x 15.5 in. Unframed. (B15697)

Howard Koslow (American, 1924 - 2016) "Death of Franklin D. Roosevelt" Original Acrylic painting on Illustration Board. Signed lower left. Provenance: Collection of James A. Helzer (1946-2008), Founder of Unicover Corporation. This is the original painting which appeared on the Republic of the Marshall Islands 50c Death of Franklin Delano Roosevelt 1945 stamp issued April 12, 1995. Shortly before Germany officially surrendered to the Allies, U.S. President Franklin Delano Roosevelt died of a cerebral hemorrhage. Although the president had shown signs of ill health during the recent Yalta Conference, Roosevelt continued to maintain a strenuous schedule until the end. His passing produced reactions of shock and grief as well as apprehension about America's future. In Germany, General George S. Patton informed Generals Omar Bradley and Dwight Eisenhower of the president's passing. Although they were optimistic about the outcome of the war, they wondered whether any American would be as successful dealing with Allied statesmen as Roosevelt. This painting depicts the riderless horse -- symbolic of a fallen warrior -- that followed Roosevelt's casket to his burial site in Hyde Park, New York. Image Size: 12.25 x 14.75 in. Overall Size: 16.5 x 18.75 in. Unframed. (B14953)

Faster than America's swiftest fighter plane, the B-10B was far ahead of its time and in great demand throughout the world. Image Size: 16.5 x 14 in. Overall Size: 20 x 15 in. Unframed. (B14323)

The Northrop A-17A Nomad, the most famous U.S. attack plane of the 1930s, was based on the company's successful Gamma and Delta commercial monoplanes. The service life of the Nomad was a relatively short four years, since it was decided to use twin-engine designs on future Army attack aircraft. Image Size: 16.5 x 14 in. Overall Size: 20 x 15 in. Unframed. (B14427)
