[SM].Ernst Wilhelm Nay studiert von 1925-28 an der Berliner Hochschule für Bildende Künste bei Karl Hofer. In der Auseinandersetzung mit Ernst Ludwig Kirchner und Henri Matisse, aber auch mit Caspar David Friedrich und Nicolas Poussin vollzieht sich seine erste Orientierung; seine Stillleben, Porträts und Landschaften finden große Anerkennung. 1931 erhält Nay ein neunmonatiges Stipendium für die Villa Massimo in Rom, wo seine surrealistisch-abstrakten Bilder entstehen. Durch Vermittlung des Lübecker Museumsdirektors C.G. Heise erhält Nay ein von Edvard Munch finanziertes Arbeitsstipendium, das ihm 1937 einen Aufenthalt in Norwegen und auf den Lofoten ermöglicht. In den dort entstandenen `Fischer- und Lofotenbildern` erreicht sein Schaffen einen ersten Höhepunkt. Im gleichen Jahr werden in der Ausstellung `Entartete Kunst` zwei seiner Werke gezeigt und Nay mit Ausstellungsverbot belegt. 1940 zum Kriegsdienst einberufen, kommt Nay als Infanterist nach Frankreich, wo ihm ein französischer Bildhauer sein Atelier zur Verfügung stellt. Die künstlerische Verarbeitung der Kriegs- und Nachkriegszeit vollzieht sich 1945-48 in den `Hekatebildern`, in denen Motive aus Mythos, Legende und Dichtung anklingen. In den `Fugalen Bildern` aus den Jahren 1949-51 kündigt sich in den glühenden Farben und verschlungenen Formen ein Neubeginn an. 1950 zeigt die Kestner-Gesellschaft Hannover Nays erste Retrospektive. Ein Jahr später übersiedelt der Künstler nach Köln. Hier vollzieht Nay den endgültigen Schritt zur völlig ungegenständlichen Malerei in seinen `Rhythmischen Bildern`, in denen er die Farbe als reinen Gestaltwert einzusetzen beginnt. Seit 1955 entstehen Nay`s `Scheibenbilder`, in denen runde Farbflächen subtile Raum- und Farbmodulationen im Bild organisieren. Diese finden 1963/64 ihre Weiterentwicklung in den sog. `Augenbildern`. Mit der ersten amerikanischen Einzelausstellung in den Kleeman Galleries, New York 1955, seinem Beitrag für die Biennale in Venedig 1956 sowie seiner Beteiligung an der documenta in Kassel (1955, 1959 und 1964) vollzieht sich sein internationaler Durchbruch. [KP].David LaChapelle, zweifelsfrei eine der außergewöhnlichsten und bekanntesten Figuren in der Fotografie der Gegenwart, kommt im Jahr 1968 in Connecticut zur Welt. Früh fühlt er sich zur Fotografie hingezogen. Eine oft wiedergegebene Anekdote berichtet vom Startschuss dieser großen Karriere: Der erst sechsjährige David LaChapelle habe seine Mutter im Bikini mit einem Glas Martini in der Hand fotografiert. Der Frühberufene entscheidet sich, wenig verwunderlich, für eine künstlerische Ausbildung. An der North Carolina School of the Arts absolviert LaChapelle ein erstes Kunststudium. In den mittleren 1980er Jahren zieht es ihn jedoch, gerade 19-jährig, nach New York. Hier ist er an der Art Students League und der School of Visual Arts eingeschrieben. Zu den zahlreichen Prominenten, die sich von David LaChapelle ablichten lassen, zählen Größen wie Elizabeth Taylor, Madonna, Leonardo DiCaprio oder Muhammad Ali. Smaller is unmarked but attributed to Kestner and has a 1-piece all-bisque head and torso with separately strung bisque arms. The larger is a socket head incised ""K*R SIMON & HALBIG 117n43"" having blue glass sleep eyes which also flirt from side to side, open mouth with four upper teeth, on original fully jointed wood and composition body with rubber hands, high knee joints, and diagonal hip joints. She wears her original dark blonde bobbed mohair wig, a 1910 style white cotton dress with pink ribbon sash, and newer white leather shoes. The smaller is a Kestner with head incised ""Made in Germany 143"" having blue glass sleep eyes, an open mouth with two upper teeth and a fully jointed wood and composition body with straight wrists. She wears a replacement wig and has been appropriately recostumed. SIZE: K*R: 17"" t (43cm). Kestner: 10"" (25cm). CONDITION: K*R overall very good with some typical age deterioration to hands. Kestner also very good, slight bisque speckling. 1-14067

CONDITION: Good to very good; some typical age wear to bodies, Kestner baby has very slight color rub on left cheek. 1-13664

The largest of the three socket heads is an A.M. 1894, and also included are a C.M. Bergmann ""S&H"" and a Karl Hartmann. The shoulder head is a Kestner 154 with blue sleep eyes and antique blonde mohair wig. SIZE: Largest: 24"" t (62cm). Smallest: 21"" t (53cm). CONDITION: A.M. 1894 has a restored crack in the back of the head and the eyes have been reset in a stationary position. Also, Kestner missing one bisque thumb. 1-13692

CONDITION: A.M.`s body has been repainted; unmarked socket head has broken foot and repainting on legs; Kestner`s eyes have fallen into head and back shoulder plate has been restored. 1-13665

LOT OF FIVE GERMAN BISQUE HEAD DOLLS. Largest is incised ""Walkure"" and has brown glass eyes that also flirt from side to side as well as sleep; a Kammer & Reinhardt doll with brown glass sleep eyes and wears what could be original pink cotton dress. Also included are two shoulder head dolls, one in white attributed to Kestner and the other doll in long pink dress and braided wig is unmarked. Small doll is incised ""224"" and is attributed to B.P. He has a ""Belton type"" head with closed mouth and is on a 5-piece composition body. SIZE: Tallest-Handwerck: 24"" t (62cm). Smallest-Belton boy: 7-1/2"" t (19cm). CONDITION: Good to very good. K*R`s fingernails repainted and unmarked shoulder head has bad crack on back of head and shoulder plate. 1-14081

Socks too tight to feet to remove. Body appears to be in reasonably condition.
