A scratch built model of a 'Town' class cruiser HMS York (scale 1:600) and accompanying book of its' history. In brief, this ship escorted Atlantic and Malta envoys, landed and evacuated troops from the failed Norwegian campaign. Active in the Med and attacked Italian fleet in Toronto harbour. Fatally crippled by 2 one-man Italian explosive motor boats in Suda Bay during the battle of Crete. Remained there for 11 years until scrapped in Bari, Italy in 1952. Hortus Sanitatis. [Ortus sanitatis de herbis et plantis, [etc.], Strassburg, Reinhard Beck, 1517], an incomplete copy, comprising 342 (of 356) leaves, lacking the title-page a1, a8, K5, 54, 55, VI and all 8 leaves of Gg, illustrated throughout with striking woodcuts of plants, animals, birds, fish, nd lapidaries, long tears in a2 ang Kk7, Kk8 laid down, some soiling and staining, occasional paper repairs, in an 18th c. English full russia binding, sides detached and spine split, small folio. With hundreds of extraordinary woodcuts, sometimes 4 to a page. Collated against Adams H.1019. Adams states that sig.Hh is omitted from the register, and our copy gives rise to doubts against Gg as well. The last book, "De Lapidibus", finishes at the end of Ff, and is followed by the Tabula beginning on Ii1. If Gg is indeed a ghost, then we are short of only 6 leaves. (1)
