ENID BLYTON AUTOGRAPH LETTERS. A small group of 17 SIGNED letters to Nicholas Bebbington, one-time Chief Constable in the Cambridge Police and later author with Blandford Press. Dates ranging from 1947-1953, many with handwritten envelopes, one on card, one typed with signature. The correspondence relates to safety and road safety, and a decline in injuries in 1953, something she discusses in a new magazine, as well as Safety First, a colouring book that she’s working on (published version featured in this sale). In one letter, she discusses W E Johns and Richmal Crompton doing safety books. Tog. w/ The Wholesale Corruption of Children’s Minds in the USA, “they read the cartoon strips as adults in the 96-page newspapers and then throw it away without reading the news.” A total of 25 pieces of correspondence & envelopes, all but one handwritten (25)NB. Nicholas Bebbington is believed to be the model for Inspector Jenks in the mystery books
Blyton, Enid. SIGNED letter and H Van Beek Noddy postcard addressed to Miss Joyce Johnson, 1950-52, discussing the new cover for a book, “The 3 Golly---s”, and describing how she has received 500 letters, hence the short card. In the 1-page letter she states, “as you know, I only write to children” (2)
