An early 20th century French triple singing bird cage clockwork automaton. With a domed gilt wirework cage housing the three colourful creatures chirping, with tilting heads and moving tails; one of which is perched. Raised on a waisted octagonal gesso plinth, 52cm. Condition Report. To be used as a guide only. Working, mechanism does make unnecessary noise when running. Some gilded areas re painted.
An early 19th Century "West Country" figured mahogany longcase clock, the 13ins arched painted dial with Roman numerals and subsidiary seconds dial and date aperture, and with "Rocking Ship" automaton to arch, to the eight day two train movement striking on a bell, contained in figured mahogany case with moulded scroll pediment, the front door with shaped borders and flanked by turned pillars, the trunk inlaid with chequered and boxwood stringings, on bracket feet, 89ins high

A French ormolu singing bird automaton mantel clock attributed to Bontems, circa 1875, the 9.5 inch dial with chapter ring of Roman numeral enamel cabochons with exposed escapement within a drum case, raised on a rectangular glazed case with a single bird automaton with brightly coloured plumage moving head, beak and tail in a naturalistic setting with painted scene to the back on a rectangular base containing the separate automaton mechanism causing the bird to sing while moving, the drum movement stamped to the back plate 'H & F Paris, 3772 72' the clock 49cm high, 22cm wide, 16cm deep NOTE: The Bontems firm produced a series of singing bird clocks, including a special commission for the Czarina of Russia, the firm is listed in the Paris Directories from 1849 and in 1851 displayed a bronze clock with singing birds at the Great Exhibition, in the same year Automata clocks were advertised at 18 francs against a price of 12 francs for a standard singing bird group. A late 18th century longcase clock, with automaton movement by Jan B. Bryhoff, Amsterdam, walnut and marquetry case, with silvered chapter ring and brass dial with subsidiary seconds and moon phases and with three dimensional theatre scene, including five rocking ships, mermaid and sea serpent. Dial width 32 cm, case height 252 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: This clock is generally in extremely good condition. The case is in extremely good order with no significant veneer issues. There are no problems with the hood. The trunk door is not warped. The sides are in good condition with no issues. The bombe base has a stress mark across the front panel which should be clearly evident. The veneer is slightly rough to the touch across this section. There is a similar stress fracture to the right hand panel of the base which is similarly a little rough to the touch. The left hand side panel is in good order with no stress fractures. The feet are original and in good condition. The movement is ticking away and the rocking ships operate with the pendulum and seem to be working as they should. We have not had the clock going long enough to see if the moon phase operates correctly but would be surprised if it didn't. The case backboards are original.
