A rare W T Avery cast iron and mahogany Jockey Scales Late 19th Century with a circular column with a scale in pounds, a nest of five graduated weights with a mahogany open elbow chair with a shaped back supported by baluster spindles, serpentine seat raised upon four tapering cylindrical legs and peg feet, raised upon a cast iron scale, 113cms highx74cms. A late 18th Century ebonised bracket clock With a 20cm arched dial signed Thomas Walter, London on a sunken silvered sector in the matted centre above a calendar aperture, the silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring with pierced blued steel hands, leaf and foliate spandrels, strike silent ring in the arch enclosed foliate mounts, the four pillar movement with twin fusee's, strike on bell with anchor escapement, the back plate engraved with a central urn on a pedestal enclosed within an oval and flanked with trailing flowers, foliate engraved movement securing brackets to the case, the pendulum with adjusting screw, the case with a bell top, fish scale frets to the sides, brass side carrying handles, plain glass spandrels to the front door raised upon a plinth base. 50cms high x 30.5cms x 17.5cms. (illustrated) CONDITION REPORT: The ebonised case - the bell shape top surface scratching, the hinged door hinges, tight, centre screws missing to right hand hinge, glazed door old putty appears to be the original glass, glass spandrels fixed with pins possibly original, lacking escutcheon, some discolouration to strike silent ring in the arch, pointer possibly not original. gilt leafy applied border to ring good condition, spandrels some minor rubbing, silver chaptering rubbed, hands would appear to be original, some rubbing to silvered name plate and square aperture, gilt metal fretwork sides replaced and red ground behind with card backing replaced, overhead saucer bell possibly replaced, movement now with anchor escapement, signs on the rectangular engraved back plate of circular apertures possibly relating to an earlier verge escapement which would have had a short bob pendulum which now has possible a later pendulum, movement not working, side carrying handles old but possibly added later.
A gilt metal Pendule d'officier style gilt brass mantle clock early 20th Century With a 10.5cm silvered dial signed in the chapter ring, Finnigans, Arabic numerals, the central roundel engraved with a scale pattern, pierced gilt hands, the two train movement striking on a coiled gong, the rectangular case with a concave sided cresting with an entwined snake handle above pendant laurel leaves, sides applied with a leafy beaded flower head raised upon turned gilt metal feet. 20cms high x 12x8cms, with key (illustrated) *** The clock is modelled on a pendule d'officier. CONDITION REPORT: Lot 2074: the gilt brass bezel minor discolouration to bezel, original glass, hinge tight, silvered dial several spots of discolouration, one in between eleven and twelve Arabic numerals and some brown discolouration running in the outer ring just ahead of seven and in front of five, hands bright and good condition, Finnigans and made in France description worn, hardly visible, some discolouration to the leafy lower spandrels, snake handle some discolouration and also to the flower requires cleaning, some verdigris just on the ledge above the applied leaf decoration on the right hand side, dust in filled in to cracks, rear glazed door minor movement to hinge, original glass. The movement - old repair soldered to hammer, not in working order.
