Arthur Strasser (Austrian, 1854 - 1927) "Retour de la Fontaine", a large decorative Austrian cold painted and gilded female figure carrying a water container, signed to the base "A Strasser", modelled c1899 - c1919, Height of Figure 87 cms In 1885, Friedrich Goldscheider came from the small Bohemian city of Pilsen to Vienna and founded the Goldscheider Manufactory and Majolica Factory. It became one of the most influential ceramic manufactories of terracotta, faience and objects in Austria with subsidiaries in Paris, Leipzig and Florence. Renown Austrian artist Arthur Strasser was to sculpture many figures for the Goldscheider factory in the early 20th century.

(See illustration) Condition Report: The left hand below the wrist and a portion of the basket have been broken and restuck. There is much flaking to the paint and some chips to the rim of the base.
