Thomas Learmonth M.L.C., 24.5 x 35mm, pierced as usual for suspension, good very fine Thomas (Livingstone) Learmonth (1818-1903) was one of the sons of Thomas Learmonth, an early settler in Van Diemen’s Land. Together with his younger brother Somerville, Thomas Jnr. moved to Port Phillip and as young men the two established several estates to the north west including, in 1838, the celebrated Ercildoune station and homestead, later said by many to have bred the finest sheep in all Australia. The brothers later (in 1863) bought the Egerton mine, where gold had been discovered in 1856; known for a time as “Learmonth’s Claim” it became the subject of a notorious 1870s court case following a disputed re-sale. Thomas Learmonth’s political career as a member of the Legislative Council lasted from March 1866 to September 1868. He subsequently settled in Scotland, adopting (like his father) the additional family name ‘Livingstone’.

Note: Born to Russian Jewish parents who settled in England in the early 1900s, Sonia Handford was educated at Clapham County Girls' Grammar School, and later at Wimbledon School of Art (1942-1945) under Lionel Ellis (1903-1988) where she received the 'Painting with Merit' award. She travelled widely during her life, beginning with France, Spain, Italy and Greece and later to Egypt, Russia, and the U.S.A. and exhibited at Wandsworth Town Hall (1963), Moriarty's Wine Bar, West Hampstead (1989) and Shaftesbury Arts Centre (2004). She also had an extensive teaching career at Sydenham School for Girls, Whitechapel Art Gallery, Balls Park College of Education, St. Albans School for Boys and Hampstead Comprehensive. Major influences on her work include: Picasso, Robert and Sonia Delaunay, Cezanne and Van Gogh.

King & Friends: 80', in 2005, the body of the guitar signed by B.B. King (and dated 4-18-05), Eric Clapton, Van Morrison, Mark Knopfler, Billy Gibbons, Roger Daltrey, Glenn Frey, Sheryl Crowe, Gloria Estefan, Bobby Bland, the pen used for signing and the pick used by B.B. King to play the guitar within the original Gibson case *The Album 'B.B. King & Friends:80' was a celebration of B.B. King's 80th birthday and comprised a series of duets with the signatories on the guitar. The signatures were obtained in various recording studios during the sessions: Clapton, Daltrey, Knopfler and Van Morrison in Olympic Studios, London, the remainder in New York and Los Angeles. B.B. King used this guitar for the session with Mark Knopfler
