ƟRichard Francis Burton, Falconry in the Valley of the Indus, first edition [London, John Van Voorst, 1852]complete, half-title, four tinted lithographed plates, Burton's personal copy with his label pasted to front free endpaper, ex-libris stamp to pp.1 of text, excellent copy, original dark purple cloth (discoloured to resemble dark brown), covers ruled in blind, spine gilt, head of spine chipped with some loss, 8vo [Penzer pp.41]One of the rarer Burton titles, and the fourth and final volume relaying his experiences in India and the surrounding areas. Penzer notes that the publisher John Van Voorst wrote to Burton in 1877 noting that 257 of the 500 copies first printed remained unsold, suggesting that they may have been scrapped altogether in preparation for a second edition. A scarce model to find in such complete condition as it retains plastic ladder and paint brush to sides of van, with unused paint tray and two paper 'posters' in the rear compartment. Overall G/G+ with some evidence of corrosion and relatively minor paint loss in a F/G, complete illustrated box.

A Tri-ang Junior Pressed Steel Milk Truck together with sixteen plastic milk bottles, but missing the roof sign, is also included as part of this lot. Conditions vary.
