FOREWORD Cameras owned by William MacQuitty, author and film maker. William MacQuitty (1905-2004) had a life long passion for photography and film. He produced a variety of feature films, including Street Corner, about women's role in the police force, one of Winston Churchill's favourite films; Above Us the Waves, about miniature submarines attacking the Tirpitz; and A Night to Remember, the definitive account of the sinking of RMS Titanic. As a writer and photographer he travelled the world resulting in seventeen books illustrated with his own photographs; the most renowned was his poster of the funeral mask of Tutankhamun, and his book Tutankhamun: The Last Journey, 1972. WW2 German U-Boat Commanders Torpedo Timer Stopwatch, fine example with white enamel dial having arabic numbers, subsidiary minutes dial. Signed “HERM BARK KIEL”. Reverse with Kriegsmarine eagle and swastika over “M” acceptance stamp and “754 N”. Housed in its original wooden storage case with brass catch lock. Top of the case stamped with the early Reichsmarine eagle mark. Appears to be in working order but not tested for accuracy, sold as a static collectable not a working scientific object.

A Collection of Miscellaneous Treen. A fine pair of 18th/19th century lignum vitae dice shakers of waisted cylindrical form with ring-turned bases and rims, turned mostly from the sap wood and having ridged interiors, 3¾" (9.6 cm) high. A 19th century treen pomander, probably sycamore, of squat cylindrical form, the sides pierced with fine baluster slats over a vertically gouged border below, the pull-off lid having an over-lapping slightly domed top with ring-turned decoration and floret pierced centre within a concentric circle of pierced holes, 3⅜" (8.5 cm) in diameter. A 19th century Tyrolean or Swiss pearwood travelling watch stand with wooden hinged and carved front, the internal recess lined in velvet, 3⅞" (10 cm) in length (folded). A rosewood egg cup with a flared moulded rim and turned central girdle to the bowl, a turned knopped stem over a stepped circular foot, possibly 18th century, 3½" (8.7 cm) high. A late 19th/early 20th century treen parasol handle carved as an elephant with glass inset eyes and gold painted ferrule, 2⅞" (7.2 cm) in length. A set of six miniature olive-wood plates, possibly late 19th century doll's house plates or wine glass coasters, circular with raised rims and flat bases, 3⅛" (8 cm) in diameter. A squat cylindrical box, possibly sycamore, with straight sides and tightly-fitting slightly domed pull-off lid, containing sixteen turned bone pegs, and two red stained examples (18), probably for a board game, the box 3" (7.7 cm) high, together with an early 19th century sycamore or fruitwood egg-timer frame, with 'draughtsman' turned ends, 3⅛" (8 cm) high.
