A fine George II brass sundial, Hamlin, London, circa 1730, the 11 A fine George II brass sundial, Hamlin, London, circa 1730, the 11.75inch circular cast plate fitted with angled gnomen set at 50 degrees and 45 minutes to centre within track annotated for the equation of time incorporating reserve signed HAMLIN LONDON at twelve o'clock and IIII-XII-VIII Roman numeral chapter ring with floating lozenge half hour markers and foliate scroll engraved decoration to the vacant space between the IIII and VIII numerals, fitted to Portland stone square section baluster pedestal with ogee moulded skirt base, 128cm (50.5ins) high.
Pocket magnetic sundial in treen case (perhaps coromandel), the printed card dial (diameter 3.9cm) on a gimbal balance with brass gnomon and marked with the hours in Roman numerals, sixteen points of the compass and the outer ring graduated in degrees, the interior of the screw down lid pasted with paper gores showing the equation of time and instruction 'Fast means that the clock should be faster than the Dial. Slow slower.', unsigned, 19th century
A good late 17th/early 18th century Augsburg pocket gilt-brass and silver pocket sun and moon dial compass/sundial by Johan Martin in Augsburg 48 (Johannes Martins 1642-1721) of octagonal form with hinged plump bob support, centred with a compass basin, the silver hour plate with outer scale IIII - XII - VIII engraved 'Horizontale Solis & Lunare', signed to the reverse and with the latitudes of sixteen cities, on three silver feet, 6.5 x 6.3 cm - in original chamois lined leather case. Note: for a similar example see Royal Museums collection, Greenwich Condition Report Very good original, unpolished, bob line missing otherwise complete, both the hinged support and inner dial operate well (dial stiff), blued steel compass arm intact/working, case well used but complete
BESWICK. A Beswick, Sundial pattern cheese dish & cover, No.542 & four other matching pieces. CONDITION REPORTS: All pieces are in generally good condition, with no noticeable cracks, chips or signs of restorations, except the cheese dish and cover has a small glaze chip to one corner of the base, which is hardly noticeable from the top. The lid of the cheese dish has a noticeable chip on the finial which has been glazed over, but there still remains a small area on the top edge which is unglazed.
