Ireland & Sussex.- Ford (Sir Edward, royalist army officer and inventor, was born at Up Park, in Harting, Sussex, bap. 1605, d. 1670) Complaint to the Lords Commissioners of the Great Seal of England regarding a dispute over a rental between Sir Edward Ford and Edward Loftus 2nd Viscount Loftus of Ely drawn on lands in Ireland and Ely, D.s. "Vera Copra" and "John Birche", manuscript in English, on vellum, 42 lines, a few small holes in right margin not affecting legibility, folds, slightly yellowed and creased, 19th century address and addressee on verso, 320 x 500mm., dated in text 20th January 1651.⁂ Irish lands including "the Manner land Lordshippe of Knock ?borr and Bally Caddaine in the Kings County... and of the Lordshipp of Mount Mellick in the Queenes County and of diverse Landes in Ely of the yearly rate of Two Thousand pounds... ."Sir Edward Ford, the son of Sir William Ford (fl. 1605-1646), knight, of Harting, 'the soape projector'; although a committed royalist he married Sarah Ireton, sister of Henry Ireton (bap. 1611, d. 1651), parliamentarian army officer and regicide and son-in-law of Oliver Cromwell. Ford developed an interest in hydraulic engineering and worked on various projects to provide water to the City of London and had further interests in technology and monetary theory. Jean LE GAC (1936) 'Paintre laçant ses Chaussures' mixed media on canvas. On the front with an inscription: 'Le paintre francais était partie sur le motif dans les parages de l'ancienne mine a d'or' which translates to: 'The French painter had set off to explore the vicinity of the old gold mine.'Previously there was a pedestal with a projector added to this artwork, which has unfortunately been lost. An image of the projector with the pedestal in the interior of Jean Le Gac's studio, is added to the images. 1988. Provenance: From the collection of 'Roger Nellens, Knokke'. There is a matching book 'Jean Le Gac, Elisabeth Franck Gallery' with a written note to Roger Nellens by Jean Le Gac. The book is a part of the sale, but is dated before the painting (1987). Condition report:- Small tear in the canvas in the lower left corner. Otherwise in excellent condition.
