The J. Arthur Osborne Collection of early photographic slides, Camborne and District with an emphasis on tin mining. The basis of this unique collection comes originally from the stock of Camborne photographer William John Bennetts, a contemporary of Charles Burrow. Undoubtedly, Burrow took some of the underground mining scenes taken here. This lot contains approximately 1220 individual photo slides, over 200 of which show mining. All slides measure 182x182mm, the vast majority with applied hand written descriptions (copies of hand written and typed, numbered and titled manifest available on request). The slides are all in good condition, many were reproduced in the 1986 book "Victorian and Edwardian Camborne through the 'Eyes' of the Camera 1850 - 1920." by J. Arthur Osborne and David H. Thomas. All contained in 28 wooden or tin boxes. A projector goes with this lot.
