Rel. de l`époque : plein parchemin, dos lisse titré à la plume (manque dans le bas du dos). Est. : 800/ 1.000 € Première édition collective posthume des oeuvres de Palissy (c. 1510-1589), "ouvrier de terre & inventeur des rustiques figulines [sic] du Roy", un des grands céramistes de la Renaissance et savant autodidacte multidisciplinaire (hydrologie, géologie, histoire naturelle, botanique...) qui ne savait ni le latin ni le grec. Basés sur son expérimentation, ses ouvrages furent peu publiés de son vivant. Le "Moyen de devenir riche" (éd. orig. : Paris, 1563) traite d`agriculture (fumiers et amendements à la marne), de jardins et de place fortifiée. Le second ouvrage (éd. orig. : Paris, 1580) traite d`hydrologie et des "fontaines tant naturelles qu`artificielles" et de la question d`alimentation des eaux par la pluie, des métaux, des sels, des pierres communes et précieuses, de l`argile, des émaux et de la marne (employée pour ses magnifiques céramiques). L`ouvrage ne traite pas d`alchimie sauf pour s`en départir. no. Duveen 446 (pour l`éd. orig. du 2 ouvr.).

Suite de Palissy, Plat ovale en terre partiellement vernissée à décor en relief d`un lézard, une couleuvre et une grenouille parmi des feuilles, l`aile décorée de trois coquilles et d`une demi-sphère à décor en relief et polychrome d`armoiries d`alliance soutenues par deux sauvages, surmontées d`une couronne de marquis et accompagnées de la devise : , A VERO BELLO CHRISTI, XVIIe siècle, Longueur : 38 cm, La couleuvre cassée et recollée, éclats au feuillage, un trou dans le centre, L`écu situé à dextre (à gauche) et la devise appartiennent à la famille Boulier ou Bouillé du Chariol, d`Auvergne et dont l`existence est établie à partir de 1155. Pour une étude de la généalogie de cette famille, voir Louis Pierre d`Hozier, Généalogie, Boulié-du-Chariol, Paris 1776. Malgré nos recherches, nous ne sommes malheureusement pas parvenus à identifier les armoiries à senestre., Un test de thermoluminescence effectué en mars 2013 par le laboratoire Re.S.Artes de Bordeaux révèle que ce plat a été cuit au XVIIe siècle à une période évaluée entre 1630 et 1710.
