Portuguese majolica Palissy-style plate decorated with relief moulded salamanders and a beetle on mossy ground, stamped indistinctly to the underside, 24.5cm diameter, also a similar smaller plate by Jose Alves Cunha Caldas Rainha, decorated with relief moulded frog, lizard, snail, butterfly and insects, 16cm wide.  (2)CONDITION REPORT: Larger plate: the tip of the lower salamander's tail is lacking. There is a firing crack to the left foot. The beetle's left leg is broken and lacking. There are minor chips to the mossy ground. The lower foot rim is drilled and fitted with a suspension wire. There is glaze lacking to an area on the underside. Also small ships and age-related surface marks and staining to the underside.Smaller plate: There are chips to the butterfly's left wing with a minor chip to the insect wing. Minor marks to the mossy ground. The lower foot rim is extensively chipped in several areas with previous drill marks. There is age-related fading to the glaze in areas of the underside.

P. Ipsen -- Obstschale: Kohlblatt mit Schlange.Keramik, glasiert. 26 x 34 cm. Nummeriert und mit dem Stempel "2 / P. Ipsen / Kjøbenhavn". 19. Jh. Diese Blattschale mit einer kleinen, naturalistisch gestalteten Schlange folgt in der Idee der Irdenware des berühmten Töpfers Bernard Palissy (ca. 1510-1589/90), der einen originellen Typ von Tonplastik erfand, indem er neuartige Glasuren entwickelte und nach dem Leben abgeformte Tiere und Pflanzen einsetzte, um naturalistische Szenerien zu erschaffen. In der zweiten Hälfte des 19. Jahrhunderts erlebte sein Werk eine Renaissance. Die hier vorliegende Schale stammt aus der Kopenhagener Keramikfabrik P. Ipsens Enke, die 1843 von Peter Ipsen, Absolvent der Royal Porcelain Manufactory, gegründet wurde. Nach Ipsens Tod 1860 führte seine Witwe das Unternehmen mit Hermann Bonfils als Geschäftsführer weiter. Der Sohn von Peter und Louise Ipsen, Berthel Ipsen (1846-1917), wurde 1861 Lehrling bei Bonfils. 1865 wurde Berthel dann formeller Geschäftsführer des Unternehmens, aber seine Mutter spielte weiterhin eine zentrale Rolle im Betrieb. Um 1900 begann das Unternehmen mit der Produktion von glasiertem Steinzeug mit moderneren Designs. Unter anderem arbeiten dort Künstler und Designer wie Thorvald Bindesbøll und Christian Joachim Jensen. Signiert und datiert "Gaube 2020".Das genuin menschliche Streben, durch Handgefertigtes in Konkurrenz zur Natur zu treten, findet in Naturabgüssen seinen wohl unmittelbarsten Ausdruck. Ein roter Faden spinnt sich von den oberitalienischen Bronze-Naturabgüssen der Frührenaissance über die Keramiken des Bernard Palissy weiter zu zeitgenössischen Interpretationen wie jenen von Gudrun Gaube. Mit flüssiger Porzellanmasse formt sie feinste Einzelheiten von Obst und Gemüse ab und rückt dabei deren skulpturale Eigenschaften in den Mittelpunkt.
