FRIDAY THE 13TH (2009) - Mario Kirner Collection: Costume, Prosthetic Head & Torso, Bear Trap & Chain - A costume, prosthetic head, body under-suit, bear trap, and chain from Marcus Nispel's horror reboot Friday the 13th. This lot comes from the personal collection of Friday the 13th collector and historian Mario Kirner. Jason Voorhees (Derek Mears) wore his costume throughout the film.It features a white T-shirt, dark green trousers, and a green and blue quilted coat comprising the lower half of a parka and the upper half of a hunter jacket. The holes and stains on the T-shirt and coat screen-match them to scenes where Jason impaled Chewie (Aaron Yoo). The prosthetic torso is made of flesh-color foam-latex. Featuring a rear zipper, it depicts a sinewy, bloodstained abdomen. The separate prosthetic foam-latex head depicts Jason's large, deformed cranium, stout neck, broad shoulders, and hand-stitched hair. The prosthetic does not extend to the face, as the piece was used for scenes where Jason wore a hockey mask. Both prosthetics are presented on a white plastic mannequin display. Clay (Jared Padalecki) used a bear trap to stab and bind Jason in the climactic fight. Made of resin with metal screws and rubber teeth, the trap features dual-spring levers, a circular plate and a stock bar, attached to which is a long resin chain. The lot is accompanied by a studio letter of authenticity for the costume. All costume elements exhibit perforations, staining, and heavy distressing. The prosthetics exhibit stiffening from age, becoming brittle near the edges, and some holes are present. The trap exhibits production-added, rust-colored paint to create an aged effect. Some chain links are severed at their mid-point. As this lot ships from Propstore's London Office, shipping must be arranged with Propstore prior to bidding. Dimensions: (bear trap and chain) 60" x 16" x 6" (151 cm x 41 cm x 14 cm); (head and torso) 33 1/2" x 23" x 11" (85 cm x 58 cm x 28 cm)This lot comes from the Friday the 13th Props Museum collection of Mario Kirner. BATMAN RETURNS (1992) - Selina Kyle's (Michelle Pfeiffer) Catwoman Costume with Screen-Matched Corset - Selina Kyle's (Michelle Pfeiffer) Catwoman costume with a screen-matched corset from Tim Burton's superhero sequel Batman Returns. Selina donned her signature Catwoman costume after Max Shreck (Christopher Walken) fired her and threw her out a window. This corset's distinctive front left side lower stitches screen-match to the scene where Batman (Michael Keaton) faced off against Selina at the Gotham Zoo's Arctic exhibit.Selina's costume underwent three stages of distressing by production to reflect her transformation into Catwoman. This costume consists of a black- and white-painted rubber "stage 2" cowl with a red dot used to identify hero cowls applied to the interior and an aluminum strip based on painters' respiratory masks and custom-sized for Pfeiffer inserted along the bridge of the nosepiece; a black silicone elastomeric zip-up "stage 1" bodysuit with white thread stitching; a black rubber-coated green canvas corset marked "Stg 3" and "Michelle Pfeiffer"; a black leatherette glove; matching black leatherette knee-high DiFabrizzio stunt boots marked "Michelle" with laces labeled "too short" and breakaway rubber heels likely used for fight scenes; black rubber knee pads and elbow pads; black neoprene ankle braces with a handwritten paper template; black nylon socks; additional prototype rubber heels with fastening strips; and two production tags. Production commissioned a total of 36 cowls from costume sculptor Jose Fernandez, nine for each stage of the cowl's distress. Nearly all were destroyed during production. The tattered "Stage 2" cowl in this lot, seen when Catwoman and the Penguin (Danny DeVito) agreed to team up against Batman, was restored by Fernandez circa 2017 and mounted to a life cast he sculpted of Pfeiffer to stabilize and preserve the foam. Also included is a Certificate of Authenticity from Fernandez based on his review and authentication of the costume. The cowl and corset are intentionally distressed by production to appear tattered in different stages, the prototype heels are brittle, and the bodysuit exhibits cracking from age, with fragile material around the ankles and arms making it unlikely to be on a mannequin again.Estimate: $20,000 - 40,000Bidding for this lot will end on Wednesday, June 28th. The auction will begin at 8:00AM PDT and lots are sold sequentially via live auctioneer; tune in to the live streaming broadcast on auction day to follow the pace. Joubin, Correspondance générale d'Eugène Delacroix, Paris, 1935-1938, vol. III, p. 374, no. 11.L. Johnson, The paintings of Eugène Delacroix. A Critical Catalogue. Delacroix visite sa collection le 9 juillet 1825, à Cadogan Place, Londres (voir L. Johnson, dans Delacroix: an exhibition of paintings, drawings and lithographs arranged by the Arts Council of Great Britain in association with the Edinburgh Festival Society, Edinburgh, 1964, no 95 et 96). 22.1.21).According to the author of the catalogue of the 1930 Louvre exhibition, Delacroix gave the present painting to Hyppolyte Poterle (1803-1835) around 1824. In the absence of documents proving this donation, Johnson (op. cit., vol. I, p. 27) rejects this hypothesis and dates the work to 1825, at the time of the artist's trip to England (Delacroix undertook a trip to England from May to August 1825, during which time he filled several notebooks with drawings and handwritten notes), relying on Delacroix's description of the painting, published in Sylvestre's work (op. cit. Cheval avec un Indien (Angleterre)).According to Johnson (op. cit.), the standing figure is that of an Indian and the accessories and clothing he is wearing were inspired by objects seen in the collection of arms and armour of Samuel Rush Meyrick, a specialist in the history of European armour and owner, according to the artist himself, of ' la plus belle collection d'armures qui ait peut-être existé ' (letter to Théophile Thoré, 30 November 1861, see, P. Burty, Lettres de Eugène Delacroix (1815-1863), Paris, 1878, p. 344). Delacroix visited Meyrick's collection on 9 July 1825, in Cadogan Place, London (see L. Johnson, in Delacroix: an exhibition of paintings, drawings and lithographs arranged by the Arts Council of Great Britain in association with the Edinburgh Festival Society, Edinburgh, 1964, nos. 95 and 96). The saddle on the ground is said to be typical of the Mahratta (a Hindu warrior people occupying central and south-western India), while the sword and shield, and probably the bamboo spear, are said to have been inspired by the weapons carried by a mannequin dressed in the armour of a Polygar (a tribe from southern India). The horse is said to have been inspired by one of the horses belonging to the horse dealer A. Elmore, who was close to the artist and met him and Géricault during their stay in England. In 1857, Félix Bracquemond (1833-1914) made an engraving after the painting, which was in the collection of Paul Huet (see Metropolitan Museum, inv. 22.1.21).For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com
