The distinctive baluster turning of the arbors is reminiscent of the work of Peter Closon, see White, George 'The English Lantern Clock' page 102. The countwheel also bears the 'matchstick man' foundry mark on its inner surface.

John Crucefix is recorded in Britten's 'Old Clocks and Watches and their Makers' as working 1689-1714 an example of his work resides to Stirling Castle.
