A late 19thC one-piece steel dagger, manufactured by W Thornhill, London, the tapered 6''L blade inscribed 'The Irish 'Thug' Knife' and on the reverse 'Lt Genl.Sir Arnold Burrows Kemball KCB, KGSI from George Shephard Page', on a stitched hide clad T-bar handle with a hide sheath (a letter from a Mr.GS Page of the American Exchange, to the Morning Post, in 1882, suggested an Irish 'Thug' Knife was probably responsible for the assasination of Lord Frederick Cavendish and Mr Burke in Dublin, earlier that year and there followed a detailed description of the wounds such a weapon could inflict)

CONDITION REPORT: The pot handle in the fireside scene has broken but is present, there is a small chip to the child's hair. The coin collector appears to be in good condition. The knife grinder's barrow handle has broken off but the piece is present, considerable surface dirt on all 3.
